Responding to Storm No. 13: Households in Gia Lai province were evacuated to safety

On the morning of November 6, local authorities at all levels in Gia Lai province, especially coastal localities, evacuated all people in vulnerable and especially dangerous areas to safety.

From early morning, Hoai Nhon and Hoai Nhon Bac wards divided many working groups to stay close to the base, especially in the neighborhoods along the coast to propagate and guide people to urgently arrange their belongings to move to the shelters arranged by the wards.

Mr. Pham Tien Dung, Party Secretary, Chairman of Hoai Nhon Ward People's Council, said that we will relocate 100% of all level 4 and non-solid houses and it is expected that by 10:00 am today, all households will be relocated. The ward has arranged 16-seat vehicles, so for households that do not have the conditions, we will transport them away.

Up to this point, tens of thousands of households in Gia Lai province living in dangerous areas and with unstable houses have been evacuated to safe shelters before storm No. 13 officially makes landfall in the next few hours.

Nhon Chau island commune activates "four on-site" plan to respond to storm No. 13

The government and people of Nhon Chau island commune (Gia Lai province) have urgently deployed response plans, determined to ensure the safety of lives and property of people and tourists.

From the afternoon of November 5, the People's Committee of Nhon Chau commune held an urgent meeting of the Commune's Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, assigning specific tasks to each force. The whole commune has activated the "four on-site" plan including: on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means and on-site logistics.

At the island commune port, the working atmosphere was urgent and hurried. Fishermen took advantage of the opportunity to tie up boats, dismantle fishing gear and move important items ashore. At the same time, militia forces and youth groups coordinated to help people move their belongings, cover their houses and transport necessities to concentrated shelters.

At Nhon Chau Commune Health Station, medical staff have prepared enough medicine and first aid equipment, and arranged staff to be on duty 24/7. Militia and border guards checked and supplemented rescue equipment such as canoes, motorboats, life jackets, flashlights, and walkie-talkies.

The loudspeaker system and community Zalo groups on the island continuously broadcast information about the location, intensity, and direction of the storm; instructing people on preventive measures and not to go out to sea under any circumstances. Tourist facilities are required to temporarily stop receiving visitors to the island until the weather stabilizes.

While the government and functional forces urgently deployed storm prevention measures, Nhon Chau residents also showed solidarity and mutual support. Families with large boats helped families with small boats anchor; households with stable boats helped households in need with temporary shelter.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Secretary of the Nhon Chau Commune Party Committee, said: "We determined that this is a strong storm with rapid developments, so the whole commune must not be subjective. By the morning of November 6, all fishing boats had safely anchored ashore. The militia and commune police were mobilized to inspect and reinforce public works and residential houses; at the same time, households in areas at risk of landslides and deep flooding were evacuated to safe locations."
