Responding to Storm No. 13: Quang Ngai residents evacuate to shelters early

Storm No. 13 is moving at a very fast speed. By 1 p.m. (November 6), many coastal areas of Quang Ngai province are experiencing very heavy rain. Localities in the province have proactively completed the evacuation of people to shelters.

Since 10:00 am today due to the impact of storm No. 13, Duc Pho ward has been experiencing heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. 87 households with more than 300 people living in the coastal area of ​​Thanh Duc 2 Block have been evacuated to the Block Cultural House. In addition to the authorities using evacuation vehicles, many households have proactively arrived at the Block Cultural House early from 7:00 am.

Ms. Le Thi Co, Thanh Duc 2 block shared: "Storm No. 13 was so big. I couldn't sleep all night, just hoping for morning. This morning, after breakfast, I brought some belongings and my children and grandchildren to the block's Cultural House. When the storm hits, we have to proactively go to the shelter early to make it less difficult for the authorities. The sooner we go, the better."

With the motto of 4 on-site, quick response, since 6am this morning, Sa Huynh ward has evacuated thousands of people to 65 concentrated shelters in the ward. By 11am this morning, Sa Huynh ward has basically evacuated people to take shelter in schools and cultural houses. At the storm shelters, Sa Huynh ward People's Committee has fully arranged accommodation, drinking water, and hot meals. No households have to go hungry or cold due to the storm.

Mr. Phan Van Thanh, Head of the Block Front Work Committee, said: "We screened and supported the elderly, single-parent, and sick households to come first. Households with semi-permanent but unsafe houses also had to be evacuated during this period. By 9 a.m., the block had basically completed the evacuation of people to a safe place. By 10 a.m. today, the storm wind had strengthened, and if we did not evacuate soon, it would be very difficult."

In the coastal commune of Mo Cay, local authorities and functional forces have been mobilized to each residential area, supporting the evacuation of single people and sick people to shelters. Most of the people were mobilized to move to live with households with solid houses before the storm hit.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Mo Cay Commune, Tran Ngoc Nam, said that the commune focuses on supporting people to live in households with solid houses. People are not allowed to live in weak houses that do not ensure safety.

Responding to storm No. 13, Quang Ngai province has planned to evacuate 27,000 households. The evacuation work is being urgently carried out by localities in Quang Ngai province.
