In 2025, it is forecasted that hydropower resources will continue to be scarce due to the impact of weather and climate. As a locality with many large thermal power plants, Quang Ninh province is assigned the important task of contributing to ensuring electricity supply for the national power system. In response to that requirement, power production units proactively develop operational plans, synchronously deploy technical solutions, organize scientific production and especially improve the quality of human resources, ensuring safe - effective - continuous operation.
Typically, Uong Bi Thermal Power Company (a member unit of Power Generation Corporation 1), in the first 6 months of the year, the company produced 2.055 billion kWh (completing 50% of the yearly plan). This is the result of the process of highly concentrating all resources, from fuel supply, spare materials and equipment, to ensuring labor safety, environmental control, saving self-consumed electricity and improving the efficiency of generators.
Mr. Do Trung Kien, Director of Uong Bi Thermal Power Company, said: To complete the remaining output of over 1.9 billion kWh in the last 6 months of the year, the Company continues to promote measures to reduce heat loss, save fuel, strictly control emission parameters, thoroughly treat wastewater and waste according to regulations, ensuring absolutely no environmental incidents that disrupt the production process. The increased application of science and technology and automation in the production line is also focused on to improve labor productivity and operational quality.
At Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company, this year's dry season is identified as a key stage in the production plan. With a proactive spirit, the Company has implemented many solutions in technical, organizational and operational work. By the end of June 2025, the Company's total commercial electricity output reached nearly 3.7 billion kWh (equivalent to over 50% of the annual plan). In March 2025 alone, the Company generated 803.23 million kWh, exceeding the plant's design capacity.
To achieve the above results, the Company has inspected and monitored the equipment status, performed maintenance and repairs according to plan and when required, operating parameters are continuously monitored to optimize the operation of the Factory.
Similarly, Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant also did a good job of fuel regulation and storage. The company established a Steering Committee for Power Supply in 2025, assigned leaders to be on duty 24/7, and maintained technical on-call duty during peak months. Equipment maintenance and repair work was specifically planned, combined with the replacement of steam pipes and anti-abrasion nets to maintain the reliability of the generators. At the same time, closely coordinated with the Power Plant Service Company (EPS) to carry out many important maintenance periods right during the Lunar New Year, ensuring stable operation of the generators entering the dry season.
Not only focusing on technical factors, the Company focuses on building a team of highly qualified engineers and workers, ready to handle any arising situations. Internal inspections and incident response drills are organized periodically, improving the ability to respond quickly and accurately in operations. Along with that, it continues to sign contracts to purchase coal fuel with a total volume of 3.45 million tons of coal, of which 2.85 million tons are from the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group and 0.6 million tons are from the Dong Bac Corporation.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the Company received about 1.7 million tons of coal from the above 2 suppliers, always maintaining a minimum coal inventory of about 130,000 tons to ensure continuous operation of the units.
With comprehensive preparation of human resources, equipment and fuel, by mid-July 2025, Mong Duong 1 Power Plant had generated 3.67 billion kWh of electricity (reaching 54% of the annual plan assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade). This is one of the bright spots in the production results of the electricity industry during the peak dry season.
Operational practices in the 2025 dry season show that thermal power plants in Quang Ninh not only strive to fulfill electricity production targets but also ensure safe, economical, efficient and environmentally friendly operations. In the context of many challenges from weather conditions, energy market fluctuations and electricity supply pressure, the results achieved by Quang Ninh thermal power plants in the 2025 dry season affirm the key role of the thermal power industry in ensuring stable and safe electricity for socio-economic development and people's lives.
