On July 30, the Investigation Police Agency of Tuong Duong District Police, Nghe An Province, announced that the unit had just issued a decision to prosecute Lau Nhi Long (born in 1973, residing in Nam Can Commune, Ky Son District) for violating regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals.

Previously, at Hoa Dong block, Thach Giam town, Tuong Duong district, the Tuong Duong district police working group discovered and seized two turtles on the shelf in front of Lau Nhi Long's motorbike. Later, the two turtles were identified as Northern yellow-fronted box turtles.

Currently, two Northern yellow-fronted box turtles listed in the Red Book are still alive and have been handed over to the Wildlife Rescue Center of Pu Mat National Park, Nghe An province.

Lau Nhi Long confessed that in early June 2024, on his way home from work in the fields, he caught the two rare turtles mentioned above.

To have money to spend, Long brought 2 golden turtles to Thach Giam town to sell. However, before he could sell them, he was checked and arrested by the police.

Currently, the two northern golden turtles are still alive and have been handed over to the Wildlife Rescue Center of Pu Mat National Park, Nghe An province.

The Golden-fronted Box Turtle has the scientific name Cuora galbinifrons. This is a rare turtle species that lives in the humid forests of all three regions of our country. The Golden-fronted Box Turtle is currently listed in the 50 most endangered species in the world, and is an animal listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
