The 1-1 draw against India at Thien Truong Stadium on October 12th marked Van Quyet's last appearance for the Vietnamese national team. Following this match, he announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.

The Hanoi FC striker shared: "Personally, I regret not getting the win today. The Vietnamese team didn't play well. Coming on as a substitute in the final minutes, I tried my best. No matter how long I played, I gave it my all, but there were mistakes when playing alongside younger players and a new tactical system."

"I'm an experienced player, and I really want to score when I return to the national team, but I'm willing to create opportunities for my teammates. The Vietnamese team missed too many chances. I want to participate in more big tournaments with the same spirit and determination. But now my physical condition isn't good anymore; I can't meet the demands. This will be my last match wearing the national team jersey."

Van Quyet shared this decision with head coach Kim Sang Sik and his teammates in the locker room after the match. He stated that although he still has the desire to contribute to the national team, his current physical condition does not allow him to play at the high intensity of the national team level. The team needs to give more opportunities to the younger generation of players.

In his final match for the Vietnamese national team, Van Quyet played well, creating many opportunities for his younger teammates.

Van Quyet also said he was surprised to be called up for this training camp and to be able to play in front of the fans. He wants to continue playing, but he thinks now is the time for the younger players to show their potential. Finally, he sent his best wishes to his teammates: "I hope the Vietnamese national team will play well, and that the young players will integrate quickly. I will always be with them in whatever capacity I hold. For the past 18 years, I have always strived, and I hope Vietnamese football will develop and the national team will become stronger."

Van Quyet was born in 1991 and began playing for the Vietnamese national team in 2011. He has 60 caps for the national team and scored 16 goals. In 2018, he and the "Golden Star Warriors" won the AFF Cup under the guidance of coach Park Hang-seo.

At the press conference following the friendly match against India, coach Kim Sang-sik stated that Van Quyet had shared with him his plans to retire from the national team. “It’s been a long time since he last played for the national team, but he remains a player who commands great respect from many. I want to thank Van Quyet for his dedication to the national team and wish him success in his future endeavors,” said coach Kim Sang-sik.
