On June 4, swimmer Vo Huynh Anh Khoa competed in the 400m freestyle S8 disability category at the 2023 Para Games. As a result, Anh Khoa won the gold medal with a time of 5 minutes 20 seconds 94.
Anh Khoa won the first gold medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
An interesting coincidence is that at the most recent ASEAN Para Games, this swimmer also brought home the first gold medal for the Vietnamese team.
Notably, the athlete born in 1990 had spinal cancer since childhood and his legs were atrophied.
But with effort and perseverance, Anh Khoa tried and succeeded in swimming.
Also on the morning of June 4, athlete Dang Thi Linh Phuong competed in the women's weightlifting event under 50kg.
In her first two weightlifting attempts, Linh Phuong completed the 91kg and 93kg weightlifting attempts. The person closest to her was Kamolpan Krarapet (Thailand) with the 85kg and 90kg weightlifting attempts.
In turn 3, the Vietnamese athlete continued to conquer the 95kg weight. While Krarapet only completed the 90kg weight.
In the 4th round, Linh Phuong decided to register for the weight of 102kg and succeeded. This is also the record in women's weightlifting at the ASEAN Para Games.
In the end, Linh Phuong brought home 2 gold medals for the Vietnamese team. Including 1 gold medal in clean and jerk (95kg) and 1 gold medal in total lift (279kg).
Also in weightlifting, weightlifter Le Van Cong excellently won 2 gold medals in the 49kg weight class with a lift of 168kg and a total of 496kg.
The two figures were 2kg and 5kg heavier than the runner-up, respectively. Notably, this was the 6th consecutive time the 39-year-old athlete successfully defended his gold medal in the 49kg category at the Para Games.
In swimming, Vi Thi Hang won gold medal and set a Southeast Asian record in the 400m freestyle with a time of 6 minutes 57 seconds 95. The old record was 9 minutes 34 seconds 94.
