U Minh Ha National Park is located in Tran Van Thoi and U Minh districts, Ca Mau province. This place not only has vast primeval cajuput forests but is also home to many species of freshwater fish...
Recently, U Minh Ha National Park organized an activity to recreate traditional pond photography images to introduce to visitors. This is one of the activities within the event “Ca Mau – Destination 2025”.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi (68 years old; resident of Tran Van Thoi district) said that pond fishing is one of the popular ways to harvest freshwater fish in the locality. After harvesting rice, the water in the fields dries up, so snakehead fish, perch, etc. will move into ponds to take shelter during the dry season.
“A day before taking the fish pond, in addition to covering the pond mouth to prevent the fish from jumping out, people also have to clear away the grass and brush (tree branches that have fallen into the pond or are left by the fish farmers to provide shelter for the fish). After taking the net, we use reeds to pin the net close to the edge of the pond and wait for a certain period of time, then gather the net to one end, then use a net to scoop up the fish. At this time, the pond owner will catch the big fish, and release the small fish back into the wild,” Mr. Khoi shared.
Ms. Ta Thao Yen (living in Ho Chi Minh City) said that her family members were very excited to witness people catching fish in the pond at U Minh Ha National Park.
“My children are all excited to see people harvesting fish. My family and I will continue to choose Ca Mau as our destination for future vacations to have more wonderful experiences,” Ms. Yen affirmed.
