According to information from the Department of Fisheries ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ), in the period 2010-2023, Vietnam has a brackish water shrimp farming area of 644,000-737,000 hectares, exporting shrimp to about 100 countries with 5 major markets such as: Europe, the United States, Japan, China, Korea...

These figures make Vietnam the second largest shrimp supplier in the world with export value accounting for 13-14% of the total shrimp export value of the world.

However, to maintain this position in the global supply chain, the Vietnamese shrimp industry is facing certain difficulties that have existed for many years.

Specifically, the number of farming households applying science, technology and engineering is still low, accounting for only 18.9% of the total farming area; Seed sources are not proactive but depend on natural sources... At the same time, the linkage in the shrimp production chain is still loose, leading to high production costs and low competitiveness.

According to Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Department of Fisheries, to overcome the above-mentioned problems and develop the Vietnamese shrimp industry in a sustainable direction, the first thing is to have state management of seed. Ensuring that seed is disease-free, paying attention to water environment treatment, complying with regulations on feed quality control, and controlling prices...

In addition, localities need to reorganize production to reduce small-scale farming areas; increase the application of technical processes to reduce production costs, thereby improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimp products with other countries./.
