On the morning of September 18, in Nanning - the capital of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region - the ASEAN-China Ministerial Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence (AI) 2025 took place.
This is the first time ASEAN and China have held an AI Ministerial Meeting within the framework of the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) to exchange and discuss the development of AI.
Attending the conference were Chen Gang, Party Secretary of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Wang Changlin, Vice Director of the National Development and Reform Commission of China; and representatives from 10 ASEAN countries and Timor Leste. Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong attended and spoke at the conference.

According to a VNA reporter in China, in his opening speech at the conference, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Chen Gang said that Guangxi is a gateway for China to open cooperation with ASEAN.
On the basis of implementing the national strategy to serve development needs, Guangxi also actively implements new cooperation content towards ASEAN, supporting ASEAN countries to proactively develop regional AI.
For his part, in his speech at the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong said that AI is not just a technology but has become a type of national infrastructure.
For every country, to develop AI quickly and sustainably, it must be based on four very important pillars: transparent AI institutions, modern AI infrastructure, high-quality AI human resources, and humane AI culture.
Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong emphasized that Vietnam wishes to promote cooperation in training and developing high-quality human resources in AI; research cooperation and academic exchange between Vietnamese organizations and AI research and training facilities and enterprises in countries around the world .

Since 2021, Vietnam has issued the National Strategy on AI Research, Development and Application to 2030 with the goal of building a strong AI ecosystem to promote socio-economic development, improve the quality of public services, enhance national competitiveness, while ensuring safety, security and ethics in AI development and use.
In recent years, Vietnam has made significant strides in the field of AI. According to the Government’s AI Readiness Index Report 2024, Vietnam is among the top 5 countries in ASEAN.
Vietnam also ranks 3rd globally in terms of trust and 5th in terms of AI acceptance.
Investment capital in AI enterprises in Vietnam has increased 8 times from 2023-2024.
AI has been widely present in many fields such as finance, e-commerce, healthcare, manufacturing and automation. Vietnam's AI ecosystem is ready for a breakthrough development, and has become a strategic destination for major technology corporations in the world in this field.
At the conference, representatives from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines spoke and shared their views on opportunities, challenges, and potential for cooperation and development in the field of AI among countries and between ASEAN and China.../.
