Thailand and Cambodia today signed a joint statement on the peace agreement on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This afternoon, answering a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to the signing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: As a neighbor of Cambodia and Thailand and an ASEAN member, Vietnam is interested in and welcomes Cambodia and Thailand signing the peace document on October 26.

This is an important and positive step, demonstrating the two countries' commitment to peace, cooperation and development, in accordance with the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

"We appreciate the efforts of countries, including Malaysia, ASEAN 2025 Chair and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the US and President Donald Trump and relevant parties in the process of seeking a peaceful solution to the issue," the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized.

Vietnam will continue to actively participate in ASEAN's joint efforts to support Cambodia and Thailand in fully and effectively implementing this document.

Dubbed the "Kuala Lumpur Agreement," the agreement commits Cambodia and Thailand to immediately cease hostilities, withdraw heavy weapons from conflict areas, and initiate joint mine clearance operations...

Speaking before the signing ceremony, US President Donald Trump said that both countries agreed to end all hostile acts and work to build good neighborly relations.

The US President added that 18 Cambodian prisoners of war would be released. In addition, observers from ASEAN countries including Malaysia would be deployed to ensure peace between Cambodia and Thailand.

Mr Trump described the agreement between Thailand and Cambodia as a "great peace deal".
