Specifically, in response to a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to the escalating conflict between Hamas and Israel, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated:

"Vietnam is closely following and deeply concerned about the escalating violence between Hamas and Israel, causing many civilian casualties.

We call on relevant parties to exercise restraint, not take actions that complicate the situation, and soon resume negotiations to resolve disagreements through peaceful means, on the basis of international law and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, ensuring the safety and legitimate interests of civilians."

According to the latest update from Reuters news agency as of noon on October 8 (Vietnam time), the attack by the Islamic armed movement Hamas (Palestine) has killed at least 250 people in Israel. Israel launched retaliatory airstrikes, also killing more than 230 people in the Gaza Strip.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack and called for "all diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflict".

"The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about civilians and calls for maximum restraint. Civilians must always be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law," Mr. Dujarric said.
