On October 2nd, regarding the incident on September 29th where Chinese law enforcement forces suppressed, injured, and confiscated property from Vietnamese fishermen on the fishing vessel QNg 95739 TS ( Quang Ngai province) while they were operating in the Hoang Sa archipelago area of Vietnam, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang emphasized:
The aforementioned actions by Chinese law enforcement forces constitute a serious violation of Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands, a violation of international law, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and go against the common understanding of the high-level leaders of the two countries regarding better control and management of maritime disputes.
Vietnam is deeply concerned, indignant, and resolutely opposes the brutal behavior of Chinese law enforcement forces towards Vietnamese fishermen and fishing vessels operating in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands area of Vietnam , causing injuries, threatening lives, and damaging property of Vietnamese fishermen.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a stern statement to the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi, strongly protesting the aforementioned actions by Chinese law enforcement forces, demanding that China fully respect Vietnam's sovereignty over the Paracel Islands, promptly investigate and inform Vietnam of the results, and refrain from repeating similar actions.
