Vietnam and Japan strengthen cooperation in investment and ODA aid

On the evening of November 27, the official website of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported in detail about the meeting between President Vo Van Thuong and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

 

The article specifically mentioned the two leaders' agreement to elevate the Vietnam-Japan relationship to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World " based on the progress in cooperation between the two countries in recent years in many fields.

 

According to the ministry, at the talks, the two leaders frankly exchanged views on further development of bilateral relations in the future in the form of a new partnership.

 

Prime Minister Kishida expressed his delight at the increasingly deep mutual understanding between the people of the two countries through many commemorative events.President Vo Van Thuong expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and was pleased to see the bilateral relationship developing in many areas.

 

The President hopes that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations.

 

In the economic field, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his desire to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, an important supply chain hub and one of the most promising investment destinations, to realize the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Partnership” and promote initiatives that will lead to growth and vitality of the entire region.

 

In response, President Vo Van Thuong supported Prime Minister Kishida's viewpoint, and the two sides affirmed to strengthen cooperation in large investment and official development assistance (ODA) projects.

 

The two leaders agreed to cooperate in the fields of high technology, Digital Transformation, Green Transformation and make joint efforts for the success of the Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Summit held on the occasion of the ASEAN-Japan Summit to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Friendship and Cooperation in December to promote decarbonization in Asia, including Vietnam.

 

Prime Minister Kishida also stated that Vietnamese human resources are essential for Japan's socio-economic development. President Vo Van Thuong expressed his hope that the Japanese Government will continue to cooperate to enhance people-to-people exchanges, including with the younger generation, and create conditions for Vietnamese people in Japan to play a more active role.

 

Regarding regional and international issues, the Japanese Foreign Ministry reported that the two leaders shared the view of cooperating more closely in resolving regional and international issues, including cooperation at the ASEAN-Japan Summit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Friendship and Cooperation, the situation in the East Sea, as well as cooperation to realize a “World without nuclear weapons”.

 

After the talks, the two leaders issued a Joint Statement and announced the upgrading of Japan-Vietnam relations to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World” as well as witnessed the signing of cooperation documents between the two countries' ministries and sectors.
