Attending the conference were members of the Party Central Committee, former members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, representatives of central departments, ministries, branches and organizations; leaders and former leaders of the Association of the Elderly through the periods, along with 346 outstanding elderly delegates who are good at economics and representatives of the Association of the Elderly in localities.
This is an important event to honor 273 typical elderly people in the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", representing more than 7 million elderly people who are directly involved in production, business, participating in economic development, making effective and practical contributions to the country's development.
Promoting the nation's fine traditions and imbued with Uncle Ho's teachings, over the years, our Party and State have always paid special attention to, promulgated and effectively implemented many mechanisms and policies to better care for the elderly.
Every year, 1.1 million elderly people are congratulated and celebrated for their longevity; 3 million elderly people have their health records established, nearly 4 million elderly people receive periodic health check-ups; over 95% of elderly people have health insurance cards; there are over 77,000 elderly clubs at the grassroots level with many types of cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities, attracting over 2.5 million elderly people to participate.
The emulation movements "Elderly people doing good business" and "Old age - Bright example" launched by the Central Association of the Elderly have developed widely, received response from all levels of associations and a large number of elderly people nationwide, achieving many practical results.
The Associations at all levels have actively propagated the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; encouraged, motivated and promoted the will and experience of the elderly while they are still healthy, have the conditions and dare to think, dare to do, strive to do well in the economy to continue contributing to the country's development.
Every year, tens of thousands of elderly people who are good at doing business are honored in the fields of agricultural production, industry, handicrafts, services, trade, etc.; demonstrating a strong will and determination, taking advantage of opportunities to do business effectively, creating products to serve society, bringing benefits to the family, the collective, and the homeland.
At the same time, care about the interests of the community and society; create jobs and stable income for thousands of workers. Especially, during the difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic, many elderly people have strongly promoted the spirit of mutual love, "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", opening their arms of compassion, helping and supporting the disadvantaged, people in difficult circumstances...
At the conference, the Organizing Committee honored 273 shining examples voted at conferences to honor the elderly who are good at economics in the period of 2018 - 2023 in 63 provinces and cities across the country. These are typical examples of elderly people who are good at economics, not only enriching themselves and their families but also creating jobs and livelihoods for many people, contributing to local economic development and creating a strong, deep and wide spread across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly congratulated, highly appreciated and praised the strong spirit, determination and will to strive to rise up of the elderly across the country, of which the 273 delegates present today are typical representatives. These are shining examples, touching people's hearts, encouraging, motivating, inspiring, creating motivation, spreading positive spirit to future generations.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the efforts, endeavors and achievements of the elderly across the country have significantly contributed to helping our country overcome many difficulties and challenges, so that our country can have the foundation, potential, position and international prestige it has today.
The Prime Minister said that the new development stage brings our country opportunities and luck but also creates many difficulties and challenges; in which, the population aging process is taking place at a faster rate than many countries in the region and the world.
In that context, to continue to protect and care for the elderly better and better, while promoting the position, role, intelligence, experience and mettle of the elderly in the cause of socio-economic development, building and defending the Fatherland, and promoting the emulation movement "Elderly people do good business", the Prime Minister requested all levels, sectors and localities to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on the elderly, especially in the context of rapid population aging today.
Raise awareness of one's responsibility in protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly and building a strong organization; consider the elderly as a resource for development and create conditions for the elderly to truly be an important force of the country, the backbone of the family and society.
At the same time, continue to effectively implement the tasks and solutions for the elderly stated in Resolution No. 124/NQ-CP dated August 7, 2023 of the Government on: prioritizing the elimination of dilapidated houses and temporary houses for poor and near-poor households with elderly people; raising the standard of social allowances and social pensions; health insurance coverage... Soon complete and submit to the Government for promulgation the National Strategy on the Elderly in the new period. Continue to promote propaganda work on the position, role and contributions of the elderly and all levels of the elderly association in the cause of socio-economic development, national construction and defense.
The Prime Minister requested the Elderly Association at all levels to quickly deploy and stabilize the organizational system according to Conclusion No. 58-KL/TW dated June 23, 2023 of the Secretariat; continue to build an increasingly strong and comprehensive association. Promote socialization, diversify the content, methods and types of elderly care; promote the core role of the association in the movement "All people care for and promote the role of the elderly", strive for the elderly to have an increasingly better life, with the most favorable conditions to enrich their families and society.
The Prime Minister hopes and believes that the elderly will live happier, healthier, and do better economically; continue to be a solid support for the younger generations; contribute their wisdom, experience, enthusiasm, and courage to the homeland and the country, as in the two verses beloved Uncle Ho gave the elderly on the occasion of the Year of the Tiger in 1962: "Old age but not old will. Contribute to building a prosperous country".
