Vinh Hoa focuses on developing key production areas

Expanding space for growth

After the merger, Vinh Hoa commune has a natural area of over ^146km2 and a population of over 51,600 people. This is a land with many potentials for development from agriculture to trade and services.

In recent years, Vinh Hoa commune has actively transformed its economic structure, crops and livestock towards forming concentrated production areas, combining with promoting the application of science and technology in production. The commune has developed small-scale industries, trade, services, creating jobs and increasing income for the people.

Roads include National Highway 63, Provincial Road 966, Cai Lon River Road connecting to communes in the Upper U Minh region, rural traffic is widely concreted; waterways include Cai Lon River passing through the commune and a system of connecting rivers and canals... are important advantages for Vinh Hoa to develop its economy.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, the total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production reached 2,954 billion VND, small-scale industry and construction reached more than 1,291 billion VND; trade and services played an important role in the local economic structure, contributing more than 5,000 billion VND, contributing to improving people's lives and increasing their income.

Trade and services in the commune are increasingly developing in quality and quantity, the scale of operations is increasing. Currently, the whole commune has 84 enterprises and 1,400 family businesses, meeting the shopping needs of the people.

A clear highlight is that the leadership of production in sub-regions achieved a fairly good growth rate, the production value of the shrimp-rice area and the Cai Lon riverside area increased by 11%, the 2-crop rice area increased by 10%. "The commune formed production sub-regions: The shrimp-rice area with an area of over 4,676 hectares, the organic shrimp farming model, and high-quality rice cultivation were implemented in accordance with the ecology and soil of the area.

The 2-crop rice area combines growing other crops with an area of 6,350 hectares. The Cai Lon riverside area focuses on producing shrimp-rice models combined with other aquatic species... Thanks to the right orientation and knowing how to exploit the internal resources of the people, Vinh Hoa has created a strong change in the economic development of these areas", Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Hoa commune Lai An Nhan shared.

Encourage and replicate new models

According to Mr. Lai An Nhan, the goal set by Vinh Hoa commune in the period of 2025 - 2030 is to promote agricultural development in the direction of rapidly shifting from agricultural production to agricultural economic thinking, shifting from small-scale production to commodity production, applying science and technology to production. The commune focuses on developing clean, organic agriculture, increasing value per unit area associated with the value chain. At the same time, forming specialized areas for key agricultural products, applying science and technology; focusing on directing stable production according to planning according to 3 sub-regions...

Taking advantage of the Cai Lon riverside area, many households in Vinh Hoa commune have boldly experimented with brackish water aquaculture models; utilizing natural brackish water resources to reduce treatment costs, adapt to climate change, and contribute to protecting the ecological environment.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thoa, resident of Vinh Hoa commune, pioneered the experiment of raising fish in rafts, with the main products being perch and snakehead fish combined with shrimp and crab farming. The model initially showed positive results, opening up a new direction for local people.

“My family has been raising shrimp and crabs for over a year, and we are just experimenting with fish. The water source here is natural, so we don’t need to change the water so the fish grow evenly. If we succeed, I will expand the model to increase my income,” Thoa shared.

Testing the brackish water fish farming model along the Cai Lon River, Ms. Tran Ngoc Bich invested in 2 rafts with a capital of more than 60 million VND, raising more than 2,000 sea perch, loach, and elephant ear fish. To make the farming effective, she and her husband learned from people with experience in riverside aquaculture to apply to their family.

“My family chose to raise these types of fish because they adapt well to brackish water and have high economic value. When testing the model, the farm selling the fish provided technical support and committed to supporting the output, so I was also assured. If the model is effective, the people here will develop more,” said Ms. Bich.

The brackish water fish farming model along the river is also one of the sustainable agricultural development orientations that Vinh Hoa commune encourages and replicates in the coming time.

“The first criteria is economic efficiency without affecting the environment, while ensuring that the products are clean and comply with OCOP standards to promote local products to regions across the country, even for export…”, Mr. Lai An Nhan affirmed.
