With the final victory in the 2024-2025 Spanish King's Cup (Copa del Rey), Barcelona has consolidated its position as the "king" of the Cup. In the history of the tournament, Barcelona has 32 "Copa del Rey" titles, seven more than Athletic Bilbao and twelve more than Real Madrid.

Winning the Copa del Rey, Barca received a very small bonus, pocketing only 1.2 million euros in prize money, while runner-up Real Madrid received 1 million euros. Those are modest numbers compared to the reputation of the two giants.

According to Sport , this is one of the lowest bonuses among the prestigious tournaments in the top 5 European national championships this season.

Even compared to playgrounds like the FIFA Club World Cup or Champions League, the bonus from the King's Cup is almost "a world apart".

A win in the Champions League knockout round would earn Barcelona more than their entire Copa del Rey campaign (11 million euros/round of 16). If they reach the Champions League final, the Catalans could earn approximately 100 million euros, nearly 84 times more, while a La Liga title would earn them more than 60 million euros in bonuses.

Explaining this issue, Spanish media revealed that the media and commercial appeal of this tournament is too poor.

The biggest reason is the very different way of dividing the revenue of the King's Cup. Since the recent season, instead of focusing most of the prize money on the final match, the Spanish Football Federation has decided to distribute the prize fund to all the teams participating in the tournament.

The revenue from the King's Cup's television rights each season is only about 33 million euros. Of this, 90% (about 29.5 million euros) goes to professional clubs, the remaining more than 3 million euros is divided among amateur and semi-professional teams.

Of the 29.5 million euros, the majority (90%) goes to the 20 La Liga teams, equivalent to about 26.5 million euros. This amount is then divided equally, and then considered for rewards for teams that advance further, such as Barcelona or Real Madrid.
