Speaking with a reporter from the CAND newspaper this evening (October 22), Lieutenant Colonel Dao Xuan Truong, Head of Nha Trang Ward Police ( Khanh Hoa ), said that his unit, in coordination with the Nha Trang Ward Department of Culture and Social Affairs and the Khanh Hoa Provincial Center for Social Protection and Social Work, had completed the procedures to return the abandoned 4-year-old boy to his biological mother this afternoon.

Before the handover, authorities worked with the mother, Pham Thi Hanh Q (born in 1993), from Da Nang City, to find out the reason why the baby was abandoned, and also checked the relevant documents to accurately determine the mother-child relationship.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Hanh Q, due to her need to travel to Japan, she took her 4-year-old son, Le Tan S, to Nha Trang ward (Khanh Hoa province) to leave him with relatives for about two months. However, because her relatives were already caring for two children, they refused to take S. Feeling frustrated, on the afternoon of October 19th, Ms. Q used the Xanh SM app to book a taxi to Le Dai Hanh street, Nha Trang ward, to take S to a hotel on Tran Phu street, Nha Trang ward. However, when the taxi arrived at the drop-off point, there was no one to pick up S, and Ms. Q's phone number was unreachable as the subscriber had switched off their phone.

Upon checking the luggage of child S, the taxi driver found the original "Excerpt of Birth Registration" and passport issued by the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan on September 7, 2023, to Le Tan S, born on August 30, 2021, in Kanagawa, Japan; place of birth: Thuan Phuoc, Hai Chau, Da Nang. The birth extract contained complete information about the child's father, mother, place of birth, residence, and place of birth registration...
Shortly afterward, the driver of the Green SM taxi took the abandoned baby boy to the Nha Trang Ward Police Station to report the incident. Since no relatives could be found, on the afternoon of October 20th, the police and the Nha Trang Ward Department of Culture and Social Affairs transferred the child to the Khanh Hoa Social Protection and Social Work Center for temporary care and nurturing while awaiting the results of the verification and search for his relatives.
Through various efforts, on October 21st, the Nha Trang Ward Police contacted Ms. Q to verify the information and persuade her to take back her son. During the meeting, Ms. Q also pledged not to abandon S.
