At about 2:30 a.m. on September 30, driver Tinh drove a Thanh Buoi sleeper bus with license plate 50F-004.83, carrying 32 passengers, traveling on National Highway 20 (from Dau Giay to Da Lat). When reaching km48 (Hamlet 3, Phu Vinh Commune), driver Tinh drove his car to overtake on the left side a truck with license plate 60C-345.13 (driven by driver H.D.T.) traveling in the same direction ahead. While overtaking, the Thanh Buoi bus driver recklessly overtook, veered to the left and crashed into a 16-seat car with license plate 86B-015.75 driven by Mr. NVC (33 years old, residing in Duc Linh District, Binh Thuan Province), carrying 8 people traveling in the opposite direction. The strong collision killed 4 people, injured 4 others and required emergency treatment at Dong Nai General Hospital.

Camera recorded Thanh Buoi car overtaking on the left, crashing head-on into a 16-seat car, killing 4 people.

According to Road Management Area 4 (Vietnam Road Administration, Ministry of Transport), the journey monitoring device installed on the sleeper bus recorded that at the time of the collision, the sleeper bus was traveling at a speed of 69 km/h, while the above road only allows a maximum speed of 50 km/h.

The 16-seat car with license plate 86B-015.75 was traveling at a speed ranging from 39 to 58 km/h on the journey from Binh Thuan province to Dong Nai at around 1:00 a.m. on September 30. While traveling on National Highway 20, the 16-seat car continued to accelerate. At 2:13 a.m. (more than 10 minutes before the accident), the speed recorded by the monitoring system was 79 km/h.
