Vung Liem: Maximizing potential and advantages for development

Socio -economic achievements many outstanding results

Implementing the 2024 Resolution with mixed advantages and difficulties, but with the determination and solidarity of the Party Committee and the People, the Vung Liem District Party Committee has directed the implementation to achieve and exceed 16/16 main targets.

In 2025, the district will focus on directing the Party Congresses for the 2025-2030 term at all levels. In addition, it will continue to innovate and improve the quality of operations of People's Councils and People's Committees at all levels; strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of management and administration of the government from the district to the grassroots level; continue to arrange and consolidate the organization of agencies and units towards streamlining and effective and efficient operations.

Along with that, strengthen social supervision and criticism, participate in giving opinions on Party building and government building in 2025; organize conferences to commend typical examples of "Skillful mass mobilization" in the period of 2021-2025 and the Campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas"; deploy house construction for households with housing difficulties. At the same time, continue to propagate and mobilize funds, and effectively implement social security policies.

Mr. Tran Quoc Hop - Secretary of the District Party Committee said that the most important issue of the year was directing the restructuring of the agricultural sector towards improving quality and efficiency.

Accordingly, production according to VietGAP and organic standards is nearly 158 hectares; 51 growing area codes are built for consumption and export with 889 hectares. At the same time, there are 17 OCOP products, of which 4 are 4-star products, the rest are 3-star.

With the desire to create quality agricultural products to meet market demand, Mr. Nguyen Le Bao Chau (Trung An commune) built An Phuoc farm to grow organic seedless kumquats, intercrop papaya and medicinal plants (ginseng) on ​​alum-contaminated land in An Phuoc hamlet, combined with raising bees for honey, frogs and fish.

Mr. Chau said, "I chose seedless organic kumquat trees because no one in Vietnam has grown them yet. They can be harvested for 20 years, then put in pots to sell as ornamental plants."

Currently, Mr. Chau is investing in turning the farm into an ecological garden to welcome visitors. He also hopes that "in the future, people will know Vinh Long for its organic seedless kumquat trees and the product will be on the list of agricultural products for export, bringing in foreign currency."

Commenting that "Mr. Chau's method is very good, helping to create safe agricultural products, contributing to job creation, increasing income and promoting the local image", Mr. Ha Van Thai - Secretary of the Party Committee of Trung An commune added: When the model is completed, a club will be established, linking production with tourism development, creating conditions for guidance and transferring science and technology to surrounding households.

According to Mr. Thai, after reaching the NTM finish line, Trung An will focus on improving the quality of the “soft” criteria according to the advanced NTM commune standards. As for the “hard” criteria, when the province and district invest, it will ensure that the commune reaches the finish line according to the roadmap.

Continue to invest in and upgrade rural transport infrastructure.

During the year, Vung Liem District Party Committee directed the implementation of tasks of building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas to achieve the set resolutions.

Accordingly, procedures were established to request the province to recognize the first phase of 2024 of Trung Thanh Tay commune meeting the NTM standards, Thanh Binh commune and Tan An Luong commune meeting the model NTM standards, bringing the total number of the district to 17/19 communes meeting the NTM standards, 5 advanced NTM communes, 2 model NTM communes; build 10 hamlets meeting the model NTM standards, bringing the total number to 22 hamlets.

At the same time, building a new rural area in Trung Chanh commune achieved 18/19 criteria; building an advanced new rural area in Quoi Thien and Hieu Thanh communes achieved 18/19 criteria, focusing on building and proposing the province to recognize the second phase in 2024.

In addition, the district has focused on resolving difficulties and obstacles and accelerating the progress of implementation and disbursement of public investment capital; focusing on implementing the construction of Vung Liem town to achieve the status of a type IV urban area. At the same time, focusing on directing the good implementation of the pilot project on job creation and sustainable poverty reduction in the area for the period 2024-2026.

Created new jobs for 2,887 workers, reaching 125.5% of the resolution target; opened 27 vocational training classes for rural workers with 625 students, reaching 104.2% of the plan. In particular, built 196 houses for households with housing difficulties, with a total cost of over 9.9 billion VND.

Continue to promote potential and advantages

Next to the lush green fields, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (Trung Hiep commune) said, "every 2-3 years, we grow one winter-spring rice crop and whether we grow rice or vegetables, the yield and price are high." According to Mr. Dung, the yield, output and price are all in the calculation. Because he often goes in the opposite season and "chooses the difficult to do."

"To grow crops successfully, it is necessary to rotate crops to change the soil's root system, have solid techniques, grasp market price information, and harvest season to plant at the right time when the market needs it and sell at a high price," said Mr. Dung.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Hop, in 2025, the District Party Committee has set out key goals and solutions. Therein, focusing on investing in building new and upgrading rural traffic infrastructure; building Trung Thanh Dong commune to meet NTM standards; Hieu Nghia and Trung Thanh communes to achieve advanced NTM standards (Trung Nghia commune strives), Hieu Nhon commune to achieve model NTM standards and continuing to build model NTM hamlets.

In addition, focusing on directing comprehensive and sustainable agricultural development, adapting to climate change, towards organic production, VietGAP, improving quality, efficiency and competitiveness... The district strives for an average increase in agricultural and aquatic production value of 2%. Along with that, synchronously deploying measures to prevent and combat natural disasters and saltwater intrusion.

On the other hand, strengthen the direction of effective implementation of the restructuring plan of the industry and trade sector; effectively implement policies to support the development of collective economy, small and medium enterprises, especially tax and credit policies. Encourage enterprises, cooperatives, and craft villages to apply science and technology in production and business.

At the same time, effectively implement programs that combine capital from the national target program for sustainable poverty reduction and other capital sources to create jobs and reduce poverty. Mobilize social resources to care for disadvantaged groups. In particular, focus on directing the work of site clearance and disbursement of public investment capital, creating momentum for socio-economic development.

The whole district of Vung Liem has 12 effective production and business models with widespread impacts. Outstanding in livestock farming are the models of raising civets, breeding bamboo rats, and KOT clean chickens; breeding green-legged shrimp in tanks. In terms of cultivation, there are models of organic rice production; growing pineapples on rice fields and fruit orchards, coconut gardens; managing plant health IPHM on rice plants; growing green-skinned grapefruit implementing the IPHM model; building codes for growing and exporting green-skinned grapefruit to Korea; establishing codes for growing and exporting fresh coconuts and durian to China; producing and processing coconuts for export...
