Coming to the kumquat plantations in the villages of Dong Tao Nam, Tran Dong, Dung Tien, etc., we saw with our own eyes the kumquat plantations, lush and full of fruit. Households growing kumquat trees are focusing on maintaining the shape of the trees, pruning excess branches, trimming off-season flowers, and trimming young fruits to ensure density and quality; and supplementing nutrients and moisture for the trees. With a profit of 50 - 60 million VND/sao/year, growing kumquat trees has brought a good income to the people in the commune.
Mr. Dang Van Hieu, owner of a kumquat garden in Tran Dong village, said: My family has been growing more than 1 hectare of kumquat for many years. Recently, I have finished cutting off some of the young fruit. Currently, I regularly visit the garden to prune and care for the trees. Hot weather mixed with heavy rain is a favorable condition for harmful fungi to develop, causing the trees to rot and lose fruit. To ensure quality and appearance for the end of the year, I pay attention to providing enough moisture for the ornamental plants on hot days. Thanks to that, up to now, the entire kumquat growing area of my family has grown well. It is expected that by the end of the year, about 1,000 kumquat trees will be supplied to the market.

In order to meet customers' tastes, recently, in addition to kumquat trees, people in Hoan Long commune have brought camellia and magnolia trees to grow. In particular, camellia trees have become a promising tree in the economic development of local people. Camellia trees have the characteristic of blooming only once a year and are often bought by people to display during Tet. Therefore, to have flowers bloom on time for Tet, camellia growers not only need to take care of the tree to develop its trunk, leaves, canopy, and shape, but also to have buds and flowers that bloom beautifully and last a long time.
Mr. Chu Van Ninh, owner of the camellia garden in the commune, shared: Camellia is one of the most "difficult" flower varieties in the world of flowers and ornamental plants. It is difficult to raise healthy, green plants, but it is even more difficult to make them bloom beautifully and bloom in time for Tet. To have beautiful camellia plants to supply to the market, I always pay attention to the selection and classification of plants. Accordingly, in the camellia fields, I invest in making iron frames and covering them with black nets to avoid frost. For plants placed in pots, I choose plants about 1.5 m high with many buds to move them to an area reserved for potted plants. At this time, I pay attention to nutrition and watering. If there is too much nutrition, the plant will have few flowers, sometimes no flowers, but if there is not enough, the plant will be stunted, the branches will be weak and thin, and the flowers will be small. At the same time, I pay attention to pruning wilted branches and leaves, removing weak buds so that the remaining flower buds are fully nourished and produce larger, more beautiful flowers.

Not only Mr. Hieu and Mr. Ninh's families, the work of taking care of flowers and ornamental plants has been diligently carried out by gardeners in the commune since the beginning of the year. Right after the Lunar New Year, gardeners had to choose healthy, quality trees to plant. After a period of care, when the trees have stabilized and grown well, gardeners will proceed to prune, shape, and create shapes. Some gardeners added that since the 10th lunar month, traders have come to order kumquat trees from gardeners. Every year, gardeners in the commune supply the market with millions of flowers and ornamental plants of all kinds, especially at the end of the year.
According to the assessment of Hoan Long commune, thanks to the conversion to growing flowers and ornamental plants, the farming efficiency in the commune has increased significantly. The models of growing flowers and ornamental plants in the commune all bring in an income of 300 million VND/ha/year or more. Every year, the commune regularly coordinates with specialized departments to organize training, transfer science and technology, and encourage people to grow flowers and ornamental plants in the direction of high technology to increase income.
