Buddha's relics return to India after 1-month journey in Vietnam

After a month-long journey to be enshrined at nine locations across the country, the Buddha’s relics were officially sent back to India. Despite the hot weather, thousands of people, monks, Buddhists and tourists in Da Nang City still respectfully stood along both sides of the road to bid farewell to the sacred treasure.

At exactly 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, June 2, the procession of vehicles carrying the relics arrived at Da Nang International Airport, concluding a meaningful spiritual journey in Vietnam.

At Quan The Am Pagoda (Da Nang City), the ceremony to send off Buddha's relics to Da Nang International Airport took place in a solemn and respectful atmosphere. This was the final stop in a month-long journey to enshrine the relics at 9 major locations across the country.

At exactly 4:00 p.m., the convoy carrying the relics moved from Quan The Am Pagoda along the route of Su Van Hanh Street - Le Van Hien - Tien Son Bridge - 2/9 Street - Nguyen Van Linh and arrived at Da Nang International Airport to complete procedures for repatriation to India.

Despite the extremely hot weather, thousands of people, monks, Buddhists and tourists still respectfully stood along both sides of the road to bid farewell to the sacred treasure, all in an orderly and solemn manner.

The Buddha's relics are a national treasure of India, currently kept at the National Museum in New Delhi. On the occasion of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025, the relics were invited to Vietnam for the first time by the Indian Government - an event of special spiritual and cultural significance.

The ceremony of sending the Buddha's relics back to India concluded a sacred journey, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of the Vietnamese people about the spirit of compassion, peace and solidarity in Buddhism.

On May 2, the relics were brought to Ho Chi Minh City by private plane, then successively enshrined at many large pagodas across the country. Quan The Am Pagoda in Da Nang City was the last stop, from May 30 to June 2, before the relics were brought back to India.

During the entire period of enshrinement, the pagoda was open 24/24 to welcome people, Buddhists and tourists from all over the world to come and worship. The organization was carefully implemented. Thousands of volunteers were mobilized to guide and support people. The functional forces, including the police force, closely coordinated and implemented many plans to ensure absolute safety for the event.

The return of the Buddha's relics to India not only concluded a sacred journey, but also left a deep impression in the hearts of the Vietnamese people about the spirit of compassion, peace and solidarity in Buddhism.
