Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Son Dong Commune People's Committee Pham Gia Loc said that in the commune, there are 907 people with meritorious services, including 2 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 138 wounded soldiers, 62 sick soldiers, 156 relatives of martyrs, 25 people infected with toxic chemicals, 7 people who participated in revolutionary and resistance activities and were imprisoned by the enemy, and 517 people who worship martyrs.
Promoting the tradition and morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "When eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree", in recent years, the Party Committee, government and people of the old communes of the new Son Dong commune have always done a good job of "Repaying gratitude", joining hands to take better care of people with meritorious services and families with preferential policies through practical actions.
Propaganda and dissemination of preferential policies for people with meritorious services, mobilizing people and businesses to actively help families of people with meritorious services have been promoted.
The commune has also directed the implementation of preferential policies for people with meritorious services according to the provisions of the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, correctness, and adequacy, the Ordinance on the State's honorary title "Heroic Vietnamese Mother" and other preferential policies; paying attention to and coordinating with units to support and care for 2 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers: Mother Nguyen Thi Lan (Song Phuong) and Mother Nguyen Thi Trinh (Lai Yen); paying monthly social security allowances to 366 people with meritorious services according to regulations...
The work of "Repaying gratitude" in the commune has been widely deployed and received positive response from the people. The commune also promoted the establishment of the "Repaying gratitude" Fund to renovate cemeteries, memorials, build steles to record the names of martyrs; visit and support people with meritorious services to the revolution or their relatives when they are sick, examined, treated and when they pass away...
In Son Dong commune, there is Van Canh Martyrs' Memorial and 5 martyrs' cemeteries in Lai Yen, Tien Yen, Song Phuong, Son Dong, and Nhon areas that are always taken care of to ensure they are spacious, clean, and beautiful.
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the commune organized practical activities to demonstrate the responsibility and affection of all levels, sectors, agencies, units and people for the implementation of preferential policies for people with meritorious services, such as: Mobilizing support for the "Repaying gratitude" Fund with 400 million VND. From this fund, the commune organized visits and presented gifts to 2 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 11 outstanding meritorious people; visited and presented gifts to 886 meritorious people and relatives of martyrs, representatives of martyr worship with a total cost of more than 192 million VND; personally presented 884 gifts from the President with a total amount of 442 million VND and 895 gifts from the city. The total amount of money and gifts presented on this July 27th occasion was more than 1.9 billion VND.
Currently, the commune continues to review the need to repair and build new houses for people with meritorious services; review and prepare documents requesting support for 11 cases of people with meritorious services who meet the conditions to request house repair and renovation according to the city's regulations.
Chairman of Son Dong Commune People's Committee Pham Gia Loc added that on the same evening, the Fatherland Front and socio -political organizations of Son Dong Commune will organize a candle lighting ceremony at martyrs' cemeteries with the cooperation and contribution of officials, teachers, parents and students of Lai Yen Primary School. 1,000 flower lanterns have been completed for use at the candle lighting ceremony, demonstrating the nation's traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember its source".
