(TTCĐ) strives to implement Project 8 "Implementing gender equality (GEM) and solving urgent problems for women and children (WCH) " (Project 8) in 15 extremely disadvantaged border hamlets , through training, communication, competitions and many practical models , promoting positive change in gender equality in the community .
Efforts to bring Project 8 into life in difficult border areas
Tra Linh border commune after merging from Tra Linh town with Cao Chuong commune, Quoc Toan commune, has a large area, has 15 extremely difficult hamlets, remote areas, difficult transportation, including: Tong Moong, Ban Khun, Po Ray, Coc Cang, Ban Lang, Coc Pat - Pac Vau, Ban Danh - Lung Tao, Lung Sap, Lung Day, Nhom Nhem - Lung Day, Cao Xuyen... Besides, the budget for implementing the Project is still limited. Faced with that difficulty, the Standing Committee of the Commune Women's Union strives to propose many solutions and tasks to implement Project 8. Directing the Communication and Information Teams to proactively develop plans to propagate gender equality, eliminate backward customs, and gender prejudices, integrated with meetings to deploy tasks in hamlets, residential areas, Party cell meetings, and grassroots women's union activities. Select and send members of the Discipline Inspection Team to attend training courses organized by the Provincial Women's Union on monitoring and evaluating gender equality, updating legal knowledge, communication skills, mediation skills, how to build messages, and propaganda content suitable to the customs of each ethnic group.
Build plans Organize a script writing contest for propaganda skits to eliminate gender stereotypes and prevent domestic violence so that branch cadres and the Communication and Communication Team of each hamlet can take the initiative. Ms. Ha Thuy Kieu, President of the Women's Union of Tra Linh commune, shared: Project 8 wants to be successful, it must start from the people, from the grassroots propaganda team who have a firm grasp of skills and knowledge about Project 8, so that they can propagate appropriately and realistically to each ethnic minority in remote, difficult border areas.

From the implementation of the above solutions, propaganda activities of the TTCĐ Team in disadvantaged and border communes have been promoted and implemented effectively. Most notably, communication in Coc Pat - Pac Vau, Nhom Nhem - Lung Day hamlets... attracted hundreds of people in the hamlets to participate. Many Mong and Nung women's union members were very excited to hear a clear explanation of their rights, to express their views on gender equality and the role of women in the family.
Ms. Hoang Thi Mua, a member of the Mong ethnic group in Nhom Nhem hamlet - Lung Day, expressed: In the past, I thought that housework was women's work, but now I understand that husband and wife must share, raise children, do housework, and take care of children together. Women should actively participate in movements and emulation activities launched by the commune and hamlet to promote their role in society. Therefore, I actively participate in the hamlet's cultural movement, poverty reduction training, learn livestock farming techniques to develop the family economy , and participate in building new rural areas.
From changing perceptions to changing behavior
With the motto of being close to the grassroots, Project 8 when implemented in difficult hamlets and border areas has brought about positive changes. The most obvious is the change in thinking about the role of women. Comrade Hoang The Minh, Secretary of the Party Cell of Po Ray hamlet, said: Previously, many families in the hamlet had the concept of "women taking care of housework", so women rarely spoke up in hamlet meetings. But after the communication and training sessions on gender equality, the awareness of both men and women has changed step by step. Now, when going to hamlet meetings, women are more bold in expressing their opinions, asking about vocational training support policies, asking about agricultural production training classes, economic models, etc. This was something that was rarely seen before.
In particular, the commune organized the 2025 Commune-level "Excellent Propaganda Team Propaganda Contest" to create opportunities for members of the Village Propaganda Team to learn presentation skills in front of a crowd, skills in creating skits, handling situations of domestic violence, early marriage or discrimination. Thereby, the Village Propaganda Team has been increasingly improved in organizing a variety of propaganda activities on gender equality, preventing human trafficking, etc.
In the activities of the Party cell, the Women's Union of the hamlet, the residential area meetings, and the hamlet arts performances, the stories of changing behavior about gender equality are mentioned more often by both men and women. Secretary of the Party cell, Head of the Communication Group of Cao Xuyen hamlet Dam Thi Hanh said: In the past, men in the hamlet rarely helped women with housework, but after attending the Gender equality communication session, many men changed their prejudices and understood more about the responsibilities of men in the family. Especially in helping their wives take care of children and respecting their wives, encouraging and creating conditions for their wives to participate in social activities. This helps the family to be more harmonious. People in Cao Xuyen hamlet share the opinion that Project 8 has had the most obvious impact on young women. They have begun to care about knowledge of reproductive health care, children's rights, and parental responsibilities.
In the past, many families still had the concept of prioritizing boys in education, but now most parents have realized that "girls also need to go to high school, college, and university to escape poverty" - Ms. Dam Thi Hoa, Head of the Women's Union, Deputy Head of the Community Information Group of Cao Xuyen hamlet commented.
Comrade Hoang Van Chinh, Secretary of Po Ray hamlet, is emphasizing: When women understand their rights, families in the hamlet will also change accordingly. There are no more prohibitions on wives participating in hamlet meetings, gender prejudices have also been reduced, women are increasingly respected, girls are cared for by their families and sent to higher education levels, women are increasingly participating in poverty reduction movements, cultural families, and new rural construction.
Enhancing women's status, strengthening community solidarity
Not only creating changes in each household, Project 8 also contributes to strengthening solidarity and building a safe environment in 15 particularly difficult hamlets of Tra Linh commune. The hamlet TTCĐ team coordinates with the commune Women's Union to regularly monitor, detect and support cases at risk of domestic violence. Some cases are promptly reconciled, helping to reduce tension in marital relationships and minimize consequences for women and children. Ms. Ha Thuy Kieu said: The most important thing is to create an environment where women are respected, listened to and protected. When the community changes its thinking about gender, acts of violence will be significantly reduced.
Project 8 also contributed to changing the role of women in society. Previously, few women participated in discussing village affairs, but now many women confidently stand up to speak at community meetings, propose building roads within fields, promote tree planting, participate in economic development models to escape poverty, eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, etc. This boldness is proof of the improvement of women's status in disadvantaged border communities.
