Humane national goals
Temporary and dilapidated houses are not only a haunting sight during each rainy and stormy season, but also a symbol of hardship and deprivation, hindering the development of each individual and community. Deeply understanding this, the Party and the State have identified the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses as an urgent task and an important target in the socio -economic development strategy. “The elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses is very humane and meaningful, and has been actively implemented with the spirit and motto of “whoever has something to help, whoever has meritorious services to help meritorious services, whoever has property to help property, whoever has a lot to help a lot, whoever has little to help a little. With the spirit of “only discussing, not backtracking”, we are determined to basically complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide by October 31, 2025” - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized.
Long Xuyen City "reaches the finish line" in eliminating temporary, dilapidated houses
Since its launch, the whole country has eliminated nearly 209,000 houses (of which, 111,000 houses were inaugurated and handed over; 98,000 houses were started), reaching about 77% of the total demand. From the third session (March 10, 2025) to now, nearly 87,000 houses have been started and inaugurated, an average increase of 26 houses/locality/day. Many houses are built with a value much higher than the budget supported by the State. Each house is "a gift", "a love", "a meaningful home", demonstrating responsibility, love, comradeship, compatriotism, sense of responsibility, and sharing of the whole community. Thereby, demonstrating the goal, the good nature, and superiority of our regime, our Party with the ideology "People are the root"; "no one is left behind"; Socio-economic development must be associated with ensuring fairness, progress and social security; not sacrificing progress and social fairness to pursue mere economic growth.
An Giang determined to "finish" early
Located in the fertile Mekong Delta, An Giang is not out of the reality that there are still households living in temporary, unstable houses. The Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee proactively developed a plan and mobilized all resources to speed up the process of eliminating temporary, dilapidated houses. The boldness in setting the goal of completing the project ahead of the national deadline shows the great political determination and strong desire of the locality to rise up.
According to Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung, to realize this challenging goal, the province has synchronously deployed many drastic and creative solutions. The Party Committee and local authorities have reviewed and counted in detail and accurately the number of families with meritorious services to the revolution, poor and near-poor households, and those in difficult circumstances living in temporary and dilapidated houses. On that basis, specific and practical support plans have been developed, ensuring that they are suitable to the conditions and needs of each family.

The tireless efforts of the government and people of An Giang have brought encouraging results. Thousands of new, solid houses have been built, replacing makeshift, dilapidated houses. As a result, by May 7, 2025, the whole province started construction of 2,882 houses (reducing 5 households belonging to the group of meritorious people, because self-reliant households did not receive support), reaching 91.8%, of which 2,415 houses were newly built and 467 houses were repaired. To date, 2,265 households have been put into use (1,829 newly built houses; 436 repaired houses). The province has basically completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for the group of people with meritorious services to the revolution (before April 30, 2025).
The joy and excitement were evident on the faces of the people when they received their new homes, where they could live in peace and build their future. Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (residing in My Binh ward, Long Xuyen city) was moved: “Before, my family lived in a dilapidated thatched house, every time it rained and was windy, the house leaked and the pillars swayed. Thanks to the support of the Party, the State and benefactors, my family has a solid house. I am very happy. I thank the Party and the State for helping my family settle down and make a living.”
"Determined to fight, determined to win"
In the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh clearly stated that the goal will not change, absolutely no one will have to live in temporary or dilapidated houses; prioritize the allocation of resources to support housing for relatives of martyrs (completed before July 27) and people with revolutionary contributions (completed before September 2). The whole country will implement the motto "People make history, strength comes from the people", "Each person contributes a hand, each family shares a part"; diversify resources to implement the program in a comprehensive, widespread, and inclusive direction.
“Heads of agencies and localities must have high determination, make great efforts, say what they must do, commit to do it, do it, do it, do it must have results; speak the truth, do it truly, effectively, the people will benefit truly. Continue to promote the spirit of “special times, special spirit, special efforts create special results”, “be faster and bolder”, “determined to fight, determined to win”, uphold responsibility before the Party, State and People to do it” - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested.
