On the morning of October 1, Mr. Thai Luong Thien - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Tuong Duong district, Nghe An - said that it was due to the impact of flash floods and landslides.

This morning, Luong Minh Primary Boarding School in Minh Tien village, Luong Minh commune had to let students stay home so their parents could pick them up.

Previously, at around 10:20 p.m. on September 30, after a heavy rain that lasted for several hours, water suddenly poured down from the stream.

In just 20 minutes, the water rose rapidly and flooded almost the entire school. At this time, many teachers were still on duty in the school but could not manage to evacuate the equipment and supplies. In addition to the teachers, there were nearly 300 boarding students staying in the dormitory.

The school yard was flooded about 1 meter in just a few minutes. Most of the classrooms and the dining hall were submerged. Books and basic school supplies were damaged. On the morning of October 1, teachers and students waded through the mud in their classrooms to retrieve their books.

Currently, military forces, police and local people are urgently clearing mud so that students can return to school soon.

Mr. Vi Dinh Phuc - Chairman of the People's Committee of Luong Minh Commune - said that the prolonged heavy rain and flash floods had caused a series of landslides in the area. The local authorities had to evacuate about 80 people in Dua village that night.

Landslides on the main road of the commune running along the Nam Non River have completely isolated four inner villages of Luong Minh commune.

After receiving news of the flash flood, the district's working group led by Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh - Chairman of the District People's Committee, immediately arrived at the scene that night, promptly directing the work of preventing, combating and responding to natural disasters.

There are currently no reports of human damage, but some houses and properties were damaged by flash floods.
