TPO – On the night of September 9, floodwaters on the Chay River continued to rise, causing many streets and houses in Bao Yen district ( Lao Cai ) to be submerged in water.

According to reporters, on the night of September 9, in Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province, it rained heavily and flood water rose rapidly.

Faced with the critical flood situation, officers and soldiers of the Bao Yen District Military Command and local rescue forces mobilized vehicles to urgently search for people trapped in houses and bring them to safety that same night.

According to announcements from hydropower plants upstream of the Chay River, on the night of September 9, the discharge to the downstream decreased compared to the afternoon, however, the amount is still very large so the flood on the Chay River is expected to recede slowly.

Faced with that situation, the District People's Committee directed the People's Committees of communes and towns to mobilize local forces and people in the area to help affected families; proactively arrange and provide necessary necessities to flooded and completely isolated households; and propagate so that people absolutely do not neglect or be subjective.

As of 10:30 a.m. on September 10, the total number of houses in Bao Yen district affected and damaged was 518, supporting the evacuation of 166 households in 13 communes due to flooding and the risk of landslides to a safe place. Estimated damage was 4 billion VND.

The total affected agricultural, forestry and fishery production area and damage was 556.1 hectares, with estimated damage of over 6 billion VND; about 21 traffic infrastructure works were damaged, with estimated damage of over 1.5 billion VND.

Mr. Tran Trong Thong - Chairman of Bao Yen District People's Committee directed communes and towns to continue to deploy, inspect, review, and at the same time propagate and guide people on how to prevent, avoid, and respond to all types of natural disasters, minimizing possible damage.
