10 traffic projects worth over 16,000 billion VND are about to be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council

The list includes many key projects expected to reduce congestion in many traffic hotspots of the city.

Specifically, in the South, the Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project has a total investment of more than 3,700 billion VND (the cost of compensation for site clearance is more than 1,264 billion VND and the construction cost is 1,748 billion VND).

If the project is approved, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport plans to complete the procedures to select a contractor and start construction in 2024, including the bridge and access roads in District 1 in the third quarter of 2024. In 2025, the project compensation, support and resettlement will be completed, and the entire construction site will be handed over. In 2026 - 2027, the construction will be completed and the entire project will be put into operation, helping to reduce the load on Kenh Te Bridge, opening a new road from the South to the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

In the East, the Ring Road 2 project (section 2 - from Vo Nguyen Giap to Pham Van Dong, Thu Duc City) is about 2.75 km long with a total investment of about 4,543 billion VND, which will be implemented with the Ho Chi Minh City budget. Of which, the cost of site clearance according to the 67m planned road is about 1,956 billion VND.

The project will invest in parallel roads on both sides, each road is 16.5m wide, meeting 3 lanes, at the same time build 2 branches of Rach Ngang bridge, build 3-level intersection at Pham Van Dong - Ring Road 2 intersection. When completed, this road section will contribute to closing the 60km long Ring Road 2, helping to divide traffic, reduce pressure on inner-city traffic and connect seaports, other important traffic routes such as Hanoi Highway, Vo Nguyen Giap, Pham Van Dong, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, National Highway 1, 13...

Also in the East, two other important projects are upgrading and expanding Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (from Giong Ong To Bridge to My Thuy Bridge) with a total investment of more than VND 2,075 billion and the project to expand Do Xuan Hop Street with a total investment of more than VND 868 billion, also on this list.

At the western gateway, the project to upgrade and expand Vinh Loc road (Huong Lo 80, from Provincial Road 10 to the border of Hoc Mon district) with a total investment of 4,344 billion VND is also expected to be submitted for approval in principle at the November meeting.

To improve the management and exploitation of traffic infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Transport proposed 3 projects with a total capital of more than 590 billion VND, including: Strengthening exploitation capacity, ensuring traffic safety (more than 350 billion VND); investing in a flexible traffic control system for main traffic axes (180 billion VND); investing in additional camera surveillance systems to serve traffic control (60 billion VND).

In addition, the Department proposed spending nearly 49 billion VND to install elevators at pedestrian overpasses connecting the elevated stations of metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) to better serve the elderly, children and people with disabilities.

The final project is to prevent landslides on river banks, canals and streams in Ho Chi Minh City with a total investment of 150 billion VND; to build embankments to prevent landslides on two river banks in Thu Duc City and Nha Be District with a total length of more than 500 m.
