Representing Vietnam to participate in the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI 2025) are 36 students from primary, secondary and high schools in Vietnam.
The exam was attended by 807 candidates from 23 countries and territories around the world including: USA, China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Australia, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, India...
With 2 parts of multiple choice and essay, candidates competed to win prizes, such as diamond medals (top 3% of students with the highest scores in each grade), gold medals (top 15% of students with the highest scores), silver medals, bronze medals and consolation prizes.
According to Mr. Cai Viet Long (vice principal of Thuong Thanh Secondary School, Hanoi ) - deputy head of the Vietnamese team, the final round exam of the WMI 2025 international mathematics competition is assessed to have a tight structure, rich in creativity, clear classification and connection with real life.
Exams from elementary to high school level have their own separate exam for each grade, not only testing basic math knowledge but also focusing on training logical thinking, problem solving ability, and application to practical situations.
In particular, many questions incorporate facts related to the year 2025, creating topicality, stimulating curiosity and connecting reality for candidates.
At the closing and award ceremony, the Vietnamese delegation achieved special results when 36/36 contestants won prizes with 2 diamond medals, 9 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 13 bronze medals and 5 consolation prizes.
Among them, Tran Lam Dao, a 6th grade student at Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, won the Champion award (Top 1 in the world in grade 6), Legend Award (3 consecutive years of gold medal or diamond medal), The Star of The World Cup for the contestant with the highest score among the Vietnamese contestants; Tran Gia Minh, a 7th grade student at Ngo Si Lien Secondary School, won the diamond medal.
Student Vu Gia Khanh, grade 11, Vinschool the Harmony High School, won a gold medal and achieved the second highest score in grade 11.
