In a warm and affectionate atmosphere, Ngoc Thinh told the story of the hardships and difficulties throughout his childhood. When Thinh was only 5 years old and his younger sister Tran Thi Ngoc Han (2 years old), his parents divorced. His mother left and for 11 years never came back to visit her children. In 2019, the pain came again when his father passed away from a stroke.

Mr. Tran Van Ngoc (67 years old) and Mrs. Huyen Thi Phet (63 years old) wiped away their tears and took their two grandchildren to raise in a dilapidated wooden house in Xom Ho hamlet, Nhon Trach commune. Despite his old age, Mr. Ngoc still has to work many jobs to earn more than 3 million VND per month to cover family expenses. Mrs. Phet stays at home and raises a few cows to sell manure, contributing a little money to make ends meet.

Feeling sorry for his grandparents who had to work hard, Thinh took advantage of his free time to help with all the housework, mowing the grass, and taking care of the cows. At night, he asked to work as a waiter at a coffee shop or cleaning the stalls. Although he was busy making a living, Thinh still maintained a serious spirit of studying, and for 11 consecutive years he was an excellent student.

Impressed by Thinh's orphaned situation and extraordinary will, the benefactors attending the program awarded him meaningful scholarships and sincere words of encouragement.

“Hopefully, from today’s sharing, Thinh will try to study hard to become successful and return to join hands in building his hometown Dong Nai. By giving scholarships, we also give trust to a young generation full of hope,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, Vice President of Dong Nai Province’s Association for Promotion of Education.

The moment Ngoc Thinh received the scholarship, the whole school yard erupted in long applause. The total amount Ngoc Thinh received was 115 million VND. This amount will be distributed as follows: 15 million VND to support living and studying expenses for the two brothers, the remaining 100 million VND will be saved for him to spend on his future university studies.

Overwhelmed with joy, Ngoc Thinh shared: “I will try my best to study well so as not to disappoint everyone. I am determined to fulfill my dream of becoming an architect so that in the future I can rebuild homes for my relatives and many homes for people like me.”

Standing next to her grandchild, Mrs. Phet repeatedly wiped away her tears. She choked up as she shared: "The worries of old age and the worries that have accumulated over time seem to have been relieved. The future of my whole family is brighter."

Wings of Dreams (DNNRTV) not only gives hope but also spreads a strong message to all students facing difficulties: See challenges as a launching pad to rise up. Because behind them there are always kind hearts, extending loving arms, promptly helping them to firmly step on the path of knowledge.
