"The US will not send any high-level representatives to COP30," a White House official said on November 1.
"President Trump is directly working with world leaders on energy-related issues, which can be seen through historic trade and peace agreements, all of which have a significant focus on energy partnerships," the official added, according to AFP.
President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Paris Climate Agreement for the second time since returning to the White House in January.
His administration has also used its influence to promote the use of fossil fuels globally, including by threatening to impose retaliatory measures on countries that agree to the carbon pricing system of the United Nations' International Maritime Organization.
While the Trump administration appears to be ignoring the COP30 climate conference, more than 100 US state and local leaders – including governors and mayors – are still expected to attend the talks.
According to VNA, the Brazilian Government previously announced that the climate summit will take place on November 6 and 7 in the city of Belém, northern Brazil, with the participation of 143 countries, including 57 delegations led by presidents or prime ministers .
This event (pre-COP30 climate conference) is an important preparation step for the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), scheduled to be held at the same location from November 10 to 21.
Speaking at a press conference in Brasilia, Ambassador Maurício Lyrio, head of Brazil's negotiating delegation at COP30, stressed that the scale of representation at this conference demonstrates the international community's strong commitment to global climate action.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will deliver the opening remarks at the plenary session and host a dinner on the Forever Rainforest Fund (TFFF), a financial initiative that Brazil plans to formally present at COP30 to reimburse countries for maintaining and protecting tropical forest ecosystems.
Brazilian Environment Minister Marina Silva said the conference was an opportunity for heads of state to send a unified message about transitioning global energy supplies to renewable sources, moving towards gradually reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Ms. Silva also announced data from the Amazon Deforestation Monitoring Satellite Project (Prodes), according to which the area of deforestation in this region has decreased by 11.8% compared to 2024, while the Cerrado ecoregion has decreased by 11%.
This is a positive result in the efforts of the administration of President Lula da Silva to protect the Amazon forest. Minister Silva emphasized that Brazil is taking the lead with practical actions, as well as affirming the country's pioneering role in environmental protection and combating climate change.
