On the morning of October 27, Mr. Dam Hai Van - Director of Nha Trang Bay Management Board - said that the rescue team had just saved the life of an 86-year-old man who drowned while swimming in the sea.
At about 9:40 a.m. the same day, while swimming at the beach area of Nha Trang ward park, the old man was swept away by a large wave and fell into critical condition.
Rescuers quickly discovered, approached and brought the victim to shore for first aid, then transferred him to the hospital for further treatment.
According to the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, in recent days, Nha Trang sea area has frequently seen waves 1-2m high, hitting the shore, posing a potential safety risk to residents and tourists.
The rescue team of the Bay Management Board has also placed warning signs in Vietnamese and English along Nha Trang coastal park.
However, many people, especially foreign tourists, still ignore warnings and wade into deep water to swim.
Previously, on October 22, a Russian male tourist around 50 years old still risked swimming in the sea despite big waves, then was swept into deep water and drowned, luckily he was rescued in time.
On October 16, 18 and 19, rescue forces also rescued many tourists who were drowning while swimming in Nha Trang beach.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Captain of the Patrol and Rescue Team (Nha Trang Bay Management Board) - recommends that people and tourists absolutely do not swim in dangerous weather conditions and strictly follow the instructions of the rescue team to ensure safety.
