Last night's (October 27th) tourist train journeys affected thousands of passengers as the railway industry temporarily suspended the SE1/SE2 and SE3/SE4 Thong Nhat trains (North-South Thong Nhat route) departing from Hanoi and Saigon stations due to the impact of floods in Central Vietnam. Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) also announced the temporary suspension of the SE19/SE20 train service between Hanoi and Da Nang.
In particular, rising floodwaters in the central region caused the "Connecting Heritage" tourism program on trains HD1/2 and HD3/4 (Hue - Da Nang route) to be suspended for two days, October 28th and 29th, affecting the travel plans of approximately 2,700 tourists who had purchased tickets.
This announcement from Vietnam Railways Corporation has been sent to passengers via SMS, Zalo, website, and official fanpage. The announcement also states that affected passengers can return their tickets free of charge within 30 days from the departure date printed on the ticket.
In Thua Thien Hue , water levels in many sections are about 70 mm higher than the top of the rails, with the deepest point reaching 185 mm. The water level has reached the bottom of the Bach Ho Bridge and Gia Vien Bridge girders - two critical points on the route through the center of Hue city.
Forecasts indicate that by tomorrow morning, October 29th, Hue city will experience heavy to very heavy rain, with exceptionally heavy rain in some mountainous areas; total rainfall is expected to be between 250-500mm, with some areas exceeding 700mm. In light of this situation, the Hue Ancient Citadel Conservation Center has announced the suspension of visitor access to all attractions within the Hue Ancient Citadel Complex due to heavy rain and rising floodwaters.
Heavy rains have flooded and cut off many roads in the Imperial Citadel, Tu Duc Mausoleum, Minh Mang Mausoleum, and other historical sites. The Center for Conservation of Historical Relics is also actively implementing measures to protect the relics, inspecting and reinforcing structures after the floods. Several other tourist spots such as Bao Vinh Old Town, the wooden pedestrian bridge, and Thanh Toan tiled bridge are also deeply flooded, making travel and sightseeing difficult.
Tourist attractions have announced they will reopen as soon as the weather stabilizes, ensuring safe conditions for visitors and the sites.
