On the afternoon of October 28th, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) conducted the draw for the group stage and schedule for the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship and the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship in Thailand.
During the draw, an unacceptable mistake occurred when the organizers used the Chinese flag instead of the Vietnamese flag for the draw that was supposed to be for Vietnam.
More importantly, the draw was livestreamed on the official website of the Football Association of Thailand. Therefore, this confusion became more widespread and serious.
Following this serious incident, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) sent official letters to the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) and the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) to protest and request clarification.
In its letter to the AFF, the VFF clearly stated its position that this serious incident could have consequences affecting Vietnam's image and negatively impacting the spirit of solidarity within the ASEAN community.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has requested the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) to clarify the cause of the incident and ensure strict measures are in place to prevent similar mistakes from recurring in future events.
The VFF believes that the AFF is also well aware of the seriousness of this matter and will handle it with the utmost responsibility, caution, and professionalism.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship will take place from December 23 to 29 at the Nonthaburi Provincial Arena (Thailand).
According to the draw results, the Vietnam U19 futsal team is in Group A along with host Thailand and Brunei. Group B consists of Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
Teams compete in a round-robin format within their groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals to compete for a spot in the final.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Futsal Championship will also take place at the Nonthaburi Provincial Arena. The tournament will feature five participating teams: Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Brunei.
The teams compete in a round-robin format to determine the two best-performing teams that advance to the final, while the third and fourth-placed teams compete for third place.
This is the first time the AFF has organized two futsal tournaments for the U16 and U19 age groups, marking an important turning point for youth futsal in the region.
