In a thrilling mixed relay race, how did Vietnam beat Thailand?
In the 4x400m mixed relay final of athletics held on the evening of December 13th at Suphachalasai Stadium, four Vietnamese athletes, Ta Ngoc Tuong, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Le Ngoc Phuc, and Nguyen Thi Hang, delivered an impressive performance to bring glory to Vietnamese sports .
As the first runner, Ta Ngoc Tuong shared her feelings of pressure and confidence: "I'm very happy because I beat the opponent I lost to yesterday. Before the race, I was a little nervous. But after warming up and being told by the coaches and teachers to fight my hardest, to strive for myself and my teammates, I tried my best with every step. For me, I didn't feel pressured because I knew I had a good start. In the team, I always have a good start and I can sprint the first few meters, so I was still very confident in the first leg of the race."

Continuing the momentum, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a new member of the team, said: "The mixed relay task put a lot of pressure on me. This is my first time participating in the 4x400m mixed relay. When I entered the competition, the coaches encouraged me a lot. Ms. Hang, who has the most experience, also encouraged me. I was very nervous when preparing to start. When I received the baton, all I could do was run. I just tried to create distance so that Phuc and Ms. Hang could feel as safe as possible."
Thanks to the advantage created by his teammates, Le Ngoc Phuc competed with great effort. He honestly shared: "This is my first time returning to the SEA Games arena since the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam. Because Ngoc was far ahead, I tried my best. If I had run alongside him, I'm not sure I could have beaten the male opponent on the other side. Because yesterday he broke the SEA Games record by a huge margin in the 400m hurdles."

Nguyen Thi Ngoc tried to create an advantage for her teammates. This is Ngoc's second gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games. Previously, she won the gold medal in the women's 400m individual event.

Running the final, decisive leg, Nguyen Thi Hang brilliantly finished first. She confided: "For me, every leg is the same. However, this is the first time I've competed in a 4x400m relay and run the final leg. I felt a lot of pressure because I won the gold medal last time, and the Thai team has improved a lot. We and the coaching staff said this race would be very tough. Therefore, my teammates and I just knew we had to run our best to achieve the best possible result. If we lost, it would still be considered that we had fought our hardest. Fortunately, we performed consistently to win the gold medal."
Speaking about her time of 3 minutes 15 seconds 07, Nguyen Thi Hang said emotionally: "We didn't think we could break the SEA Games record. When we reached the finish line, I realized we had broken the SEA Games record, and the emotions were truly overwhelming."
