Help now

In a small repair shop in Trung Phuoc 2 village (Nong Son commune), the smell of oil mixed with the strong smell of mud was strong. Mr. Truong Minh Canh, the shop owner, his sleeves rolled up, his body covered in mud, wiped the oil and said: "Everyone's vehicles are broken, if we can't fix them, how will we get to work or take our children to school. I will help if I can."

Immediately after posting the notice of free car repairs for people in flooded areas, Mr. Canh's phone rang continuously. From morning to night, he and three workers worked tirelessly with the generator and washing machine, rescuing each flooded car. He also mobilized workers from neighboring villages to join in, and called on benefactors to support spark plugs, air filters, and oil so that people would not have to spend money.

One of the first households to receive help was Mr. Vo Coi’s family in Phuoc Vien village. Their house was nearly two meters underwater, mud covered the floor, and their belongings were scattered. The motorbike, the only means of livelihood for the family of four, was also “swallowed” by the water. “In difficult times like this, if the motorbike breaks down, it means losing our livelihood,” Mr. Coi said. “Luckily, Mr. Canh and some mechanics helped us change the oil, clean the mud, and now the motorbike starts again. I am so happy.”

When there was a flood warning, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh Thong, in Loc Dong village, did not hesitate to use his small truck as a "zero-dong vehicle", transporting people and property to safety. After the flood, he continued to drive to transport relief goods and goods to help people overcome the consequences. When he heard that the locality needed to transport rescue canoes from Thang Binh, he immediately registered to support. "In the village or neighboring villages, whoever needs to transport goods, I will help. If you have a vehicle and strength, just go, helping people is a joy," Mr. Thong smiled gently.

Mr. Doan Ngoc Thuy, Secretary of the Loc Dong village Party Cell, said: “When hearing the news of heavy rain, those who were able supported the weak and single-parent households. Young people voluntarily moved goods, machinery, and cattle to higher ground. Thanks to that, the damage to the village was much less than predicted. The most valuable thing is the spirit of self-reliance and neighborly love.”

Not only that, after the water receded, dozens of truck and pickup truck owners in the commune volunteered to transport relief goods to deeply flooded areas such as Trung An, Trung Thuong, Dai Binh and other localities where the mud was thick and cars had difficulty accessing. "Normally, everyone is busy making a living, but in times of trouble and flood, we are still "safe", so we would like to contribute a little to the people", a truck owner in Trung Phuoc village said while loading bags of instant noodles and drinking water onto the truck to deliver supplies.

Unity to overcome natural disasters

At the headquarters of the Nong Son Commune People's Committee, Mr. Pham Phu Thai, an officer of the Commune's Department of Culture and Society , was constantly busy on the phone. He updated the damage situation and dangerous road sections when the floodwaters rose; and acted as a connecting point, including information on rain and floods, rescue information, and support information... "I am very happy that in addition to necessities, many technical teams also want to help people repair damaged equipment. For example, the Lien Chieu Refrigeration Team (Da Nang) came to repair refrigerators, washing machines, and pumps that were flooded. They have two groups, nearly 20 people actively supporting people," Mr. Thai shared.

Mr. Ly Xuan Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nong Son Commune, added: "As soon as the water receded, the commune mobilized all militia forces, youth union members and people to clean up the environment, collect garbage and clear sewers. More than 10 individuals and businesses in the area also volunteered to bring excavators and bulldozers to support leveling mud, opening roads, creating paths for relief teams to enter remote areas and for people to travel. Many households with trucks and dump trucks also volunteered to transport goods, supplies and necessities to isolated areas."

Mr. Phong said: “In times of difficulty, we can see the power of solidarity. Everyone contributed what they had. Those who had machines or vehicles helped with vehicles; those who had strength helped clear the mud; those who had money helped with bundles of vegetables and firewood... Thanks to that, after only a few days, many residential areas, schools, and public works were cleared and clean again.”

Every hand, every heart, every small action contributes to writing a beautiful story about humanity, about the strong inner strength that helps the homeland revive after the storm and flood.
