Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the most rice export traders in the country with 35 enterprises. Next is Can Tho with 33 enterprises, Long An has 20 enterprises, Dong Thap, An Giang and Hanoi currently have 14, 13 and 11 enterprises respectively.
Some localities have only one rice export business: Bac Lieu , Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Ha Nam, Ha Tinh, Hau Giang, Nghe An, Tay Ninh, Thua Thien - Hue.
Previously, according to the list announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade , as of February 6, 2025, the whole country had 158 rice export traders.
According to the Customs Department, in the first three months of 2025, the country's rice exports reached nearly 2.31 million tons, bringing in 1.21 billion USD, up 5.82% in volume, but down 15.5% in value compared to the same period last year. The average export price of rice was about 522 USD/ton, down 20.18%.
Rice supplies in Asia are more abundant than two years ago. In particular, India's resumption of rice exports after a period of restrictions is the reason why prices are no longer high. In addition, India has a record high rice reserve, increasing the supply on the international market, creating competitive pressure for other exporting countries.
The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) forecasts that rice exports in 2025 may only reach 7.5 million tons, down from the record of more than 9 million tons in 2024. Rice export output may decrease, but if the amount of ST24, ST25, and high-quality fragrant rice can be increased, the value of rice exports will still increase.
According to experts, to export rice sustainably, help Vietnamese rice maintain its price and conquer demanding importers, it is necessary to continuously improve quality, diversify varieties, increase production of fragrant rice, convert production towards sustainability, and strictly control the issue of chemical residue./.
