Today (November 28), the closing ceremony of the 'Teaching and Learning for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder' Project, organized by the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) with Vietnamese partners, took place at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.
The program allows for the enhancement of the capacity of teachers to teach children with autism spectrum disorder.
Speaking at the closing event, Mr. Jaryll Chan, Executive Director of the Programs Division of the Singapore International Foundation, shared that the project to enhance the educational capacity of children with autism is proof of the achievements that can be made when communities transcend national boundaries to work together towards a common goal.
The project started in November 2019 and has now been completed after 5 years of implementation by the Singapore International Foundation in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and the Rainbow Centre Singapore.
During the project implementation, a total of 170 teachers from 15 schools and one hospital received training to enhance their educational capacity in order to build an inclusive learning environment for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Ho Chi Minh City.
The training aims to equip teachers with deeper knowledge of autism and effective ways to work with children with ASD.
The program also focuses on developing a support system for educators to address the specific needs of students.
At the same time, the project also develops a framework for collaborative programs with parents and caregivers to provide comprehensive support for children with autism.
Several teachers also attended workshops and study tours in Singapore. Subsequently, 10 teachers were selected to become core instructors, responsible for sharing their experience and expertise with colleagues, ensuring the project's sustainability, and continuing to deliver value to the educational community in Ho Chi Minh City.
Among the participating schools, 80% implemented changes to better meet the needs of children with ASD, including adopting proven practices to improve classroom communication and creating student-friendly learning environments.
