According to the Department of Higher Education ( Ministry of Education and Training ), among more than 614,000 candidates admitted to universities and pedagogical colleges in 2024, the business and management group continues to lead with a rate of 25%.
In addition, the five fields with the largest number of students enrolled last year included computer and information technology (12%), engineering technology, humanities (9%) and health (6%).

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam in 2024 is 1,071,395, of which more than 733,000 candidates registered for admission to universities and colleges in preschool education, accounting for about 68.48% of the number of candidates taking the exam.
Statistics from the ministry show that in the past 3 years, 2024 is the year with the highest ratio of candidates admitted to school/quota (85.23%).
The rate of training institutions with 80% or more of admitted candidates is 71.38% (in 2023 it is 63.04%); accounting for 80.68% of the total number of admitted candidates nationwide (in 2023 it is 78.24%).

Too many complicated and ineffective admission methods
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, there are still issues to be noted in the 2024 university admission season. One of the problems is that there are too many admission methods, while only a few methods are really useful for schools in the admission process.
"The fact that universities use too many admission methods causes information confusion. Many admission methods have no or very few candidates registering, showing ineffectiveness and not ensuring fairness between admission methods.
There is an admission method in which the number of candidates admitted by this method in the entire system is only 2 digits (only a few dozen candidates - PV)," said Mr. Dung.
In addition, Mr. Dung also said that many training institutions have not analyzed the correlation and compared students' learning outcomes according to admission methods.
Some places have not ensured fairness, and the allocation of quotas is not reasonable, causing difficulties for candidates and the system. Many schools that conduct early admissions cannot predict the number of virtual candidates.
Through analysis of the Ministry's 2024 regular university admission results data, it shows that more than 52% of candidates were admitted based on high school graduation exam results and more than 27% were admitted based on high school academic results (transcripts). While only about 3.36% of candidates were admitted based on the results of the aptitude and thinking assessment test.

Therefore, Mr. Dung recommended that universities should consider calculating to eliminate ineffective admission methods before planning to organize admissions in the 2025 university entrance exam.
