Cracked and subsided foundation, Da Nang mountain school at risk of collapse

A school in Tra Linh commune, Da Nang city has subsided, many cracks have appeared on the foundation, and is at risk of collapsing at any time.

On the afternoon of November 1, Mr. Nguyen Tran Vy, Principal of Ngoc Linh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said that prolonged rain caused serious landslides, causing Tak Ngo school to subside, the ground to crack, and the classroom floors to crack and subside, at risk of collapsing at any time.

This school belongs to Ngoc Linh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Tra Linh Commune, Da Nang City (formerly Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam ).

According to Mr. Vy, in the school yard, the classroom walls have many vertical and horizontal cracks, running from the base of the wall up to the roof, and in some places the paint and mortar are peeling off.

The concrete floor was split and raised, extending into the classrooms. Inside the classrooms, the tiled floors were cracked and severely sunk.

The concrete foundation right at the school gate cracked and slid down the slope, creating a deep ravine, revealing the weak ground underneath.

The fence system, pillars and walkways are sagging, cracked and very dangerous. The school is in danger of collapsing at any time.

Teacher Nguyen Tran Vy said the incident happened many days ago, due to heavy rain, floods, and landslides, so the local authorities were only able to access it on November 1.

Currently the cracking situation is serious, the foundation is damaged, the whole area has collapsed so it cannot be fixed.

Tak Ngo school was inaugurated in August 2025, organized by the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam (old) in coordination with Ngoc Linh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Nam Tra My Love Connection Club and Han River East Bank Golf Club.

The project has a total investment of more than 1 billion VND, of which clubs and social organizations sponsor 500 million VND, the rest is matched by the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district (old).

Project scale is 120m², including 1 solid classroom, 1 teacher's office room, restroom, playground, canopy, gate and protective fence.

Mr. Vy said that this school has 2 classes with a total of 34 students. After the landslide, the school arranged for the students to go to the central school of the commune to study, ensuring safety.

The main school in the commune is about 10km from the landslide site. The school will welcome the students to stay in the boarding school to continue their studies.

As for the landslide that could not be fixed, the school reported to the People's Committee of Tra Linh commune.

The classroom was cracked open.
