On November 3, the water downstream of the Thu Bon River poured into the Cua Dai estuary, turbulent and turbid. The embankment along the Thu Bon River to the estuary, passing through Duy Nghia commune (Duy Thanh, Duy Nghia, Duy Hai communes of the old Duy Xuyen district, now Da Nang ) continuously suffered from fierce waves.
On the shore, hundreds of people and soldiers urgently carried sandbags to reinforce and maintain the embankment. Thanks to the "coordinated combat" of the army and people, this section of the shore was not swallowed by the waves...

Mr. Ngo Van Hai - Head of An Luong village (Duy Nghia commune) - said that the village has about 560 households, but in the past 5 days, almost all the people, from the elderly to the young, men, women... have been present at this embankment, each person doing their own work, joining hands to protect every meter of their homeland.
Not only people in the village but also people from other villages, neighboring communes, and even remote areas came to contribute.
A few steps from the embankment, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ban (66 years old) and many other women were busy cutting ropes and tying bags as the sand was scooped up.
Since the big waves threatened the embankment and residential area, she sent her belongings to an acquaintance's house while staying to support the villagers.
"From the evening of the 29th until now, the whole village has been on duty here. Young people and soldiers are shoveling and carrying sand; old people like us are busy cutting ropes, opening and tying bags," she said.
Next to her, Mrs. Nu (70 years old) shared while working: "Look from the beginning of the village to here, everyone is rolling up their sleeves for the common cause. As long as there is a dike, there is a village and land."
Right next to the pile of sand that had just been dumped by the truck, soldiers, militiamen, young men and many women were constantly scooping sand into bags.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hien, despite being 70 years old, is surprisingly agile. She used both hands to lift the sandbag up and down, then took out a rope and tied it tightly. "The bag is tied, guys" - she said loudly, then quickly moved to another bag...
