Above is the sharing of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, about the school's benchmark score this year being exceptionally high, surpassing even Hanoi Medical University.

Answering reporters on the sidelines of the year-end conference held this morning (August 19) in Hanoi, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Son said that not only Hanoi National University of Education, in general, this year's benchmark scores at all schools have increased, partly due to the tuition fee policy attracting many candidates.

The biggest reason is that this year the number of candidates applying for teacher training has increased dramatically, but the quota is limited, so only the top candidates have enough points to get in.

"Hanoi National University of Education has a mechanism for recruiting national excellent students. Last year, the school recruited more than 300 national excellent students, including many in social sciences, so the competition is higher," said Mr. Son.

Regarding the fact that some candidates who scored 9.65 points still failed, Mr. Son said that if we compare this year's benchmark score with last year's, it may seem too high, but if we evaluate the university admission process from top to bottom, it will be reasonable because once there are many top candidates, surely the candidates at the bottom will no longer have a chance, that is the rule of admission.

"I understand the feelings of many parents when their children fail to pass with a score of 9.65. Currently, children can register for many wishes. If they do not pass their favorite major, they will pass another major because they have many wishes. That is completely normal because even though you are good, there are still many other people who are better," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son said.

With this year's benchmark scores, Associate Professor Dr. Son said that enrollment often fluctuates, so from 2025, students should pay close attention to policy adjustments of the school and the Ministry of Education and Training .

According to Mr. Son, there will be certain orientations and changes in the admission methods of schools, in which the University of Education will also adjust some majors. Therefore, the advice he gave is that considering high school graduation exam scores is still the most certain.

In particular, the 2025 high school graduation exam will include two compulsory subjects, so the exam format of Hanoi National University of Education will be different from before.

Assessing this year's benchmark scores, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that the Ministry needs to have a very careful analysis and evaluation to be able to make an assessment.

However, in general, the current admission process is favorable and transparent, so students will focus on choosing good training schools and majors with high demand for human resources.

"On a national or regional scale, there are industries with low quotas but a large number of candidates, pushing up the benchmark scores, which is also the reason," said Deputy Minister Son.

Regarding the high benchmark scores for block C this year, with many majors where candidates scored above 9 points and failed, Deputy Minister Son said that the Ministry had made an assessment from the beginning because when comparing the score distribution of the two years, it showed that the score distribution had increased.

"The Ministry of Education and Training will have a thorough analysis, but basically, if the admission methods are fair and the exam questions are clearly differentiated, there is nothing unusual about high benchmark scores. This shows that the competition between industries and prestigious schools is becoming more and more evident," the Deputy Minister affirmed.

Commenting on the benchmark scores for teacher training schools, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training shared that high benchmark scores for teacher training are a good sign for this sector because high benchmark scores will push up quality.

Regarding the fact that many localities lack teachers but why schools reduce their teaching quotas, the Deputy Minister said that we must look at the whole picture. Here, there is a lack of recruitment quotas, but training must be accumulated. It is not necessarily true that if there is a shortage, we must train immediately because in previous years, 40,000-50,000 training quotas were set but they have not been fully recruited yet.
