Recently, some technology experts realized that AI chatbots sometimes have difficulty with simple arithmetic and math problems that require many steps to find the result, according to the New York Times .

Chatbots like Open AI’s ChatGPT can write poems, summarize books, and answer questions with human-like fluency. These AI systems can also do math, but they can get the answers wrong because they base their results on probabilities, not rule-based calculations.

"AI chatbots have trouble with math because they were never designed to do math," said Kristian Hammond, an AI researcher at Northwestern University.

In addition, according to Mr. Kirk Schneider - a high school math teacher in New York state (USA), AI chatbots are usually fine but not good enough for math because "math must be precise and correct".

Mr. Schneider used to have the class discuss whether the AI’s results were true or false and what the students found. “It helps kids practice critical thinking. Don’t believe everything an AI program tells you,” Mr. Schneider said.

AI is improving, but it still has its shortcomings. AI chatbots like ChatGPT have solutions to difficult problems, thanks to the help of a specialized program that specializes in calculations.
