CEO Nadella announced that Altman will join Microsoft to “lead a new advanced AI research group.” Meanwhile, Greg Brockman, who left the OpenAI board in protest of Altman’s firing, will also join Microsoft.

Shear, OpenAI's new CEO, was a co-founder of Twitch, but left the Amazon-owned live -streaming platform earlier this year.

Shortly after the internal announcement of Shear's appointment, OpenAI employees protested and walked out of the company's San Francisco headquarters. Dozens of employees announced internally on Sunday evening that they were leaving the company.

OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, has decided not to reinstate Altman, disappointing investors and employees who were eager to bring him back. Altman was previously fired by OpenAI's board on Friday, a move that has rocked the tech world .
