CEO Nadella announced that Altman will join Microsoft to “lead a new advanced AI research group.” Meanwhile, Greg Brockman, who left the OpenAI board in protest of Altman’s firing, will also join Microsoft.
Shear, OpenAI's new CEO, was a co-founder of Twitch, but left the Amazon-owned live -streaming platform earlier this year.
OpenAI employees protested and walked out of the company’s San Francisco headquarters shortly after the internal announcement of Shear’s appointment. Dozens of employees announced internally on Sunday evening that they were leaving the company.
OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, has decided not to reinstate Altman, disappointing investors and employees who were eager to bring him back. OpenAI’s board of directors had previously fired Altman on Friday, a move that sent shockwaves through the tech world .
