Three South Korean tourists simultaneously tried seven typical Hue-style cakes such as banh beo, bot loc, ram it, etc. They continuously nodded in approval, praising how delicious they were.
Three Korean boys: Jongrak, Sungrak, and Dongrin To be The owner of the YouTube channel HanQuocBros has over 1 million followers. They regularly share videos about life and Vietnamese food with a humorous and interesting perspective.
Not long ago, three young men visited Hue. Besides visiting famous landmarks like the Hue Imperial Citadel and Dong Ba Market, they also spent time experiencing the local cuisine , enjoying many delicious specialties, including various types of cakes.
They went to a famous eatery on Nguyen Binh Khiem Street to enjoy Hue-style cakes. Following the staff's recommendation, they ordered a combo of 7 types of cakes, priced at 330,000 VND, including banh beo, banh bot loc, banh uot cha tom, banh nam, ram it, nem lui, and cha tom.
The pastries are served one after another, each with its own dipping sauce.

Banh bot loc (tapioca dumplings) have an outer layer made from tapioca flour, and a filling of shrimp and braised meat inside. The inner layer of dough is soft, chewy, and has a subtle aroma of the dong/banana leaves used for wrapping.
Banh beo chen is made from pure rice flour, poured into small cups, and steamed. The cakes are topped with crispy fried pork cracklings, shredded shrimp, and a drizzle of rich, savory fried shallot oil.
The Korean guests nodded in approval as they enjoyed the meal. Jongrak said that the dipping sauce served with the pancakes here was better than those at Hue-style restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. They even imagined that fried chicken would taste great with these sauces as well.

While bánh bèo (steamed rice cakes) are incomplete without a dipping sauce made from fish sauce, sugar, garlic, and chili, which is quite sweet and spicy according to Hue's taste, nem lụi (grilled pork skewers) are served with a thick, yellow dipping sauce made from finely ground peanuts.
After trying the grilled pork skewers wrapped in sliced sour starfruit, pickled radish and carrots, and a few types of fresh vegetables, then dipping them generously in the sauce, the guests exclaimed, "It's so delicious!" and nodded repeatedly in approval.
When asked about the best food, the three guys struggled to find a precise answer. They felt that "when eating banh loc (a type of Vietnamese dumpling), banh loc is the best; when eating ram it (a type of Vietnamese fried spring roll), ram it is the best; when eating nem lui (grilled pork skewers), nem lui is the best..."

After eating Hue-style cakes, the three guys thought, "If we go back to Korea, we'll crave them so much we'll probably cry." They even came up with the idea of exporting Hue specialties to Korea.
At the end of 2024, the renowned food website Taste Atlas announced the results of the Taste Atlas Awards 2024-2025, listing the 100 cities with the best food in the world.
Vietnam has three cities on the list: Hue, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City. Hue ranks 35th globally, notable for its distinctive traditional cuisine.
