India seeks cooperation opportunities in digital technology, artificial intelligence in Can Tho

On June 17, speaking at a working session with leaders of Can Tho City, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya said that Indian businesses and universities want to cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital technology, renewable energy and seaports.

Ambassador Sandeep Arya said the visit aimed to learn about Can Tho ’s development orientation in the context of the city’s upcoming merger with Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces. This will be the basis for the two sides to identify potential areas for development cooperation in the coming time.

The Ambassador emphasized that over the past year, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and India has made many significant developments. He expected that Vietnamese localities, including Can Tho, would play a proactive role in promoting cooperation, especially in priority areas such as economy , science and technology - the development focuses of both countries.

The Ambassador said that currently, a number of large Indian corporations are interested in seaport and renewable energy projects in Vietnam, and wish to learn more about Can Tho's development orientation and plans in these areas. In addition, many leading Indian universities are also looking for partners in Vietnam to promote cooperation in high-tech fields such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence and digital technology .

On this occasion, Mr. Sandeep Arya expressed his wish that Can Tho city organize an event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of International Yoga Day, thereby enhancing people-to-people exchange and cultural cooperation between Vietnam and India.

Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that on June 12, the Vietnamese National Assembly passed a Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units, according to which Can Tho will merge with Hau Giang and Soc Trang. From July 1, the new Can Tho will officially operate, expanding the development space, creating a foundation for close regional economic, cultural and social linkages. In particular, Can Tho plays the role of a center for trade, services, science and technology; Soc Trang develops maritime economy, seaport logistics services; Hau Giang develops digital economy and high-tech agriculture.

The Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee said that in the coming time, the city will promote the development of high-tech agriculture, production according to the green and circular economic model; especially focusing on the application of digital transformation in production. At the same time, it will focus on areas such as seaports, renewable energy (wind, solar), creating a favorable foundation to enhance cooperation with international partners, including India.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen hopes that Ambassador Sandeep Arya will be a bridge to convey information about Can Tho's development orientations to the Indian Government and businesses, promoting investment and trade connections between the two sides.
