According to a report from market research firm Canalys, the global tablet market recorded impressive growth in the second quarter of this year, with a total of 39 million devices shipped. This figure represents a 5% increase compared to the first quarter and a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2024, showing that consumer demand is gradually recovering after a period of stagnation.
During the second quarter, Apple continued to maintain its leading position in the tablet market with 14.1 million iPads sold. |
This growth is driven by a wave of strong purchases in key markets such as China and Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where consumers are returning to tablet devices after a period of stagnation.
Apple continued to assert its dominance in the tablet market by shipping 14.1 million iPads in the second quarter, accounting for 36.1% of the global market share. This figure marked a 2.4% growth compared to the same period last year, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the “Apple” brand in the market.
Samsung came in second with 6.7 million tablets sold in the second quarter, accounting for 17.1% of the global market share. However, compared to the same period last year, the company's sales recorded a slight decrease of 1.8%, reflecting increasingly fierce competition.
The next three spots belong to Huawei (8.3%), Lenovo (7.9%) and Xiaomi (7.8%). All three manufacturers achieved impressive growth compared to the previous year, largely thanks to a strong recovery from the domestic Chinese market - where demand for mid-range and high-end devices is clearly increasing.
According to experts, the growth of the tablet market in recent times has also been driven by a wave of new product launches, especially in the gaming device segment.
The growing demand from users for mobile entertainment experiences has made gaming tablets a potential niche segment, recording remarkable growth – especially in Asian markets where the gaming community is expanding.
Some of the notable products that helped drive demand include the Xiaomi Redmi K Pad and Vivo Pad5 – tablets optimized for performance and entertainment. Notably, Lenovo’s Legion Tab saw sales more than double compared to the previous quarter, demonstrating the growing appeal of the gaming segment.
At the same time, manufacturers are also actively integrating tablets into their connected ecosystems, turning them into coordination hubs for other smart devices in the home and office.
