Aqua Warriors Van Don 2025 - Camel Cup: Philippine athlete unexpectedly wins

(Dan Tri) - In the Sprint Aqua Warrior event, 16-year-old Filipino athlete Lucas performed excellently and finished first. In this event, athletes will swim 750m and run 5km.

Today (September 28), the Aqua Warriors Van Don 2025 - Camel Cup tournament organized by Dan Tri newspaper in collaboration with Bolt Event at Sonasea Van Don Harbor City Resort Complex, Van Don special zone, Quang Ninh province entered the second day of competition with 4 events including Olympic Aqua Warriors, Full Aqua Warriors, Sprint Aqua Warriors and Ultra Aqua Warriors.

The Aqua Warriors Van Don 2025 - Camel Cup will take place on September 27 and 28 at the Sonasea Van Don Harbor City Resort Complex, Van Don Special Zone, Quang Ninh Province. This is the second time the event has been held at this location, after the 2024 season, which was highly appreciated by the athlete community for its natural landscape, infrastructure and convenience in organization.

The event gathered more than 2,000 domestic and international athletes participating in 7 competition distances: from Kids and Junior swimming and running for children to long distances for adults such as Ultra Aqua Warriors (5km swim - 21km run), Full Aqua Warriors (3km swim - 15km run) or Olympic Aqua Warriors (1.5km swim - 10km run).

Before the tournament took place, national swimming champion Nguyen Thu Trang (the athlete who won the Ironman 70.3 women's Vietnam in 2022 with a time of 5 hours 04 minutes 22 seconds for a distance of 1.9km swimming, 90km cycling and 21.1km running) shared with Dan Tri instructions on skills when swimming in the sea as well as running for athletes participating in the tournament.

Sharing her experience about the differences between swimming in the sea and swimming in a pool, Thu Trang said: "Usually, athletes participating in the Aqua Warriors tournament mainly practice swimming in indoor pools, and practice actual swimming in the sea less because not everyone lives near the sea or has the conditions to go to the sea to practice every day.

When you practice in a pool, everything is perfect, because the water is still, there are lanes, there are markers on the bottom, there are no waves, no currents, no wind, and it is usually warm.

But out at sea, things are much different, sometimes against the waves, wind, currents, water temperature and even salt all affect the body.

Swimming in a pool only reflects basic technique and fitness, while ocean swimming requires adaptive skills, continuous sighting (raising the head to orientate towards the buoy after every few strokes) to orient, adjusting breathing to the waves, and a steady mentality when there are no lane lines.
