The doctoral degrees of two lecturers were "accused" of not being recognized, what did the school say?

(Dan Tri) - Vietnam Aviation Academy spoke out regarding the report that two lecturers used foreign doctoral degrees that were not recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training.

On October 31, Vietnam Aviation Academy responded to information from some students that two lecturers of the Foreign Language Department, Ms. NTNA and HTTT, used doctoral degrees not recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training but were still allowed to work as Head of Department and members of the Scientific Council.

Ms. Nguyen Nu Tuong Vi, Head of Administrative Organization Department, Vietnam Aviation Academy, said that Ms. NTNA and Ms. HTTT both meet the professional and technical requirements of the teaching position at the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

Specifically, Ms. HTTT has been working since September 2022, has a master's degree in English teaching from the University of Canberra (Australia), which was accredited in 2018.

This person has been teaching since 2004 and was Head of Department at the University of Transport.

Ms. NTNA has been working at the Academy since May 2024, has a master's degree in English Teaching Theory and Methodology from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. NTNA has been teaching since 2006, and has held the position of manager of the Foreign Language Department at Bach Viet College and Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

Information Academy, Ms. HTTT and Ms. NTNA have doctorates in Business Administration and Educational Management. However, these degrees are not used for English teaching positions, so the Academy does not require verification of these doctorates in the lecturer's profile.

Regarding the assignment of Head of Department duties, the Academy cited Circular 04/2024 of the Ministry of Education and Training, which does not stipulate that the job position "Head of Department" is an appointed title.

Therefore, according to the Academy, the position of Head of Department at the Academy is not an appointed position but a task assignment and will be re-evaluated annually.

The above two lecturers were assigned to be Heads of Departments from July 2024, within the framework of the first academic year of the Vietnam Aviation Academy piloting this model. The evaluation of work results and consideration of assignment of tasks for the next academic year will be carried out in November 2025.

Ms. Nguyen Nu Tuong Vi confirmed that the academy has a policy to attract PhDs but it does not apply to the two lecturers mentioned above, because their PhD degrees cannot be used for teaching positions at the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

This Academy commits that the related issues of Ms. HTTT and Ms. NTNA do not affect the training quality of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

“We are in the process of reviewing and completing lecturer profiles and will require relevant individuals to conduct international diploma verification to ensure consistency and compliance with current regulations,” added a representative of the Vietnam Aviation Academy.
