The night noodle shop "Revenge of Life" is causing a stir among young people in Ho Chi Minh City because of its strange way of ordering dishes.

Diners design their own bowl of noodles.

Mr. Vu Khang (Tan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) rode his motorbike more than 10km with his girlfriend to find a noodle shop in Thanh My Tay Ward for dinner. Upon entering, each customer was given a sheet of paper with “instructions for revenge on life” to “design” a bowl of noodles to their own taste.

Then, diners will go to the counter to choose side dishes with humorous names.

Instead of ordering shrimp balls or crab sticks, customers will see names like “shrimp balls with great success”, “crab sticks are poured”, “cheese then calculate”… Some people holding the ticket read and laughed at the restaurant’s creativity.

In addition to choosing according to their preferences, diners can also roll the dice for 7,000 VND each time to randomly choose side dishes.

According to the price list, diners can have a light meal for 25,000 VND or order more substantial side dishes, bringing the price of each bowl up to 100,000-150,000 VND. Each side dish is calculated based on the amount chosen by the customer, creating a feeling of "paying for what you eat".

After finishing choosing the dish, customers pay first and then the restaurant starts preparing. Normally, each bowl of noodles takes about 5 minutes to be made.

Mr. Khang commented: “I chose crab sticks, beef, pork rinds, minced meat... My friend chose the same and two drinks, totaling 208,000 VND for two people. The space is airy, the staff is enthusiastic. What I like most is that I can choose the noodle toughness and sauce flavor to my liking, not the kind of restaurant that cooks a fixed recipe.”

Another customer also rated the price as “reasonable for the experience”. “Today I was hungry so I chose a lot of side dishes, totaling 89,000 VND/bowl. Last time I came here to eat noodle soup and found it to my liking, so this time I came back to try mixed noodles. My feeling is that the sauce is hot and the flavor is delicious,” this person shared.

Customer service to the max

The owner of the noodle shop is Ms. Tran Vu Hanh Quyen (born 1997, HCMC), a young person who started a business in the direction of creative cuisine . Ms. Quyen said that the shop was inspired by the humorous way of speaking of young people when facing life's pressures.

“The phrase 'revenge on life' is a humorous way of saying that young people often use when they are tired from studying or working, and want to relieve all the stress (pressure). I want to bring that spirit into my food and service,” she said.

The owner said the most special thing is that customers have full freedom to "design" their own bowl of noodles and the restaurant will pamper customers to the fullest after a tiring day of studying and working.

Ms. Quyen shared: “In real life, we have to please many people, but here, the restaurant will please customers. Each person receives a personalized order form, chooses vegetables, side dishes, noodle thickness, sauce flavor, salty, sour, spicy or sweet... Customers go to the counter to choose noodles and side dishes according to their needs or finances that day.”

In addition to the eye-catching name, the food is invested in keeping the familiar instant noodle flavor but upgrading the broth and side dishes.

“The broth is made from bones, radishes and vegetables to have a natural sweetness. The seasoning is combined with the noodle package to keep the familiar flavor, and the restaurant's own sauce with an exclusive recipe is added. I accept customer feedback and most of them find the taste to be to their liking,” the restaurant owner said.

However, each portion of noodles is prepared separately, so during peak hours, customers may have to wait quite a while. Some first-timers are confused about choosing a ticket and figuring out how to order. However, most customers are patient and seem to enjoy the experience.
