The Vietnam image promotion platform vietnam.vn - a project using artificial intelligence (AI) and automatic web technology to spread the country's image to the world was shared by Mr. Ngo Thanh Hien, Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Information and External Information, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, at the event as a typical example of how people are utilizing AI to serve their work.

“Vietnam.vn not only saves time and editing costs, but also integrates automatic translation tools, virtual assistants and AI technologies to help media agencies provide authentic, timely and effective information,” Mr. Hien affirmed.

In addition, the source information system developed by the Ministry also uses AI to support regional text-to-speech conversion, helping to modernize the transmission of grassroots information.

The models shared by Mr. Ngo Thanh Hien are typical examples of the application of AI being implemented in practice to improve the effectiveness of policy communication. This is also the focus of the 10th international conference within the framework of cooperation between the Academy of Journalism and Communication and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hai Binh, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism , emphasized: "AI is profoundly changing the way people access, produce and distribute information", while warning of existing challenges such as fake news, cognitive manipulation and gaps in professional ethics. Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hai Binh emphasized the important role of the press in protecting the Party's ideological foundation and guiding public opinion, and said that press management in the context of AI requires a comprehensive, interdisciplinary and flexible approach.

From an academic perspective, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Trung Y, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics , emphasized the importance of the right orientation: "Mastering AI must be clearly and consistently oriented, serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland". A clearer warning was given by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhat, Deputy Head of the People's Electronic Department, Nhan Dan Newspaper. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhat pointed out: "We are facing a new opponent that is more dangerous than Google or Facebook - that is AI chatbots". Citing the fact that Chat GPT has risen to the top 5 in the world in terms of visits, Mr. Nhat said that readers' information search behavior is shifting strongly from Google to AI. This puts traditional newspapers in a difficult position when traffic has decreased sharply.

He added: “Previously, reporters had to spend several days to analyze a complex document, such as Resolution 68 on private economic development, but now they can complete an entire mind map, article, and podcast in just one afternoon thanks to AI.”

However, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nhat also emphasized the role of humans as the “last stop” in content editing: “AI can assist, but journalists are the ones ultimately responsible for the information.”

Not only analyzing the challenges, experts at the workshop also opened up a positive direction: considering AI as a tool to improve the quality of journalism. From supporting editing, synthesizing, creating new format content such as podcasts, interactive videos, to the ability to analyze trends and optimize big data, AI is becoming an indispensable assistant.

“The issue is not whether to use AI or not, but how to use AI to uphold the core values and ethics of journalism,” many experts participating in the discussion emphasized.

The international conference “Journalism and communication in the context of AI development” is not only a professional conference but also a strategic step in the digital transformation integration efforts of the Vietnamese journalism industry. When AI asks questions, it is humans, with critical thinking, professional ethics and storytelling ability, who will find the answers.

The 10th international workshop in the cooperation series between the Academy of Journalism and Communication and KOICA once again demonstrated efforts to improve the capacity of journalism staff in the new era.

The workshop was held at the Academy of Journalism and Communication, with the participation of Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hai Binh, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Trung Y, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Mr. Lee Byung Hwa, Country Director of KOICA Vietnam, leaders of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, and experts, scholars, and scientists at home and abroad.
